omg omg omg someone just invited me over their band

So I'm starting to collect vinyls and so far I have a Smoosh 7" single which was the first vinyl I ever bought, it's the La Pump single

and I just bought Shellac 1000 Hurts, 12" ldo.

And I got this from my mom imo. Mike Oldfield Tubular Bells

I gave a copy of this album on CD to Asy from Smoosh in Austin last March imo. I almost died going to that show. True story. I went down a huge hill on roller blades and wiped out on the road on the bottom right in front of a truck that was passing by but saw me and stopped. I didn't break the CD, rip my pants or shirt or anything, just got some road rash on my palms. Hurt like a mother ****er imo. It was actually the remastered version as that's all they could get in, but whatever imo. Still one of the greatest moments of my life imo.

My problem is, I need to get a working record player imo. Thinking about getting one of these imo.

I've got a Dual 1229 but don't think it works and it has no stylus imo.

Don't understand the fascination with LPs. I bought a bunch in the late 80s (well into the cassette age), I'm not sure why. Actaully probably for the big cover art compared to tapes. I don't miss them at all, but I see all these younger guys now collecting them. To me it's like someone wanting to use rotary phones or something.

Go back and compare bass response, and feel, on vinyl vs. the same song on CD and you should clearly see the appeal of vinyl. Size wise, it sucked, but there are some songs from the late 80s/early 90s that are incomparable between the vinyl and CD versions. There are also downsides to LPs (record pops, etc.), but from a song feel perspective, it was generally sweet. I'm sure the gap has been closed quite a bit in the last 20 years between CD/Vinyl, but I haven't owned a turntable in about 10 years or so, so I can't say for sure.

I'm actually contemplating getting one for home.

My current phones suck arse and my sister in law (she's into retro 50's etc) bought a couple recently and they are awesome.

You hear everything so clearly.

Also with the LP's vs CD's thing there have been a number of studies into the frequencies of analogue and digital and the affects they have positive or negative on our brains.

I'm no expert, so this is merely conjecture on my part, but even in a lossless state, the digital has a reduced frequency range. Even though we might not actually "hear" some of these frequencies they still affect us.

I'll try and find the study I read and link it. I thought it was pretty interesting.

I mean this has been discussed before. We obviously live in a digital age where the majority have been receiving music in the digital form for 25-30 years. So a whole generation that has largely missed out on that.

I'm no audiophile but I know that a large percentage of those that are use valve/tube systems and tape or turntable setups.

Digital is easy and available and cheap and all the wonderful things you want in a computer based world, but it doesn't mean that you aren't missing out on something.

There's just something magical with vinyl imo and you can't replicate it with CDs.

I can't wait to hear that Shellac album once I get a turn table. I know that's how Albini intended it to be heard.
