I figured we should have a separate thread for DIY type discussion from the general gear discussion thread.

I have started to build guitar pedals, and I have built one so far, a BYOC tremolo pedal, which is a clone of an Electronics Australia tremolo pedal I believe.






It works and sounds really well imo.







I'm currently working on my second pedal, which is a modified tube screamer clone.








it's gonna be a lot more work than the first :/

whats going to be modified about it? I've thought about building pedals in the past, but never got around to it. are those kits?

It's modified in that there's a separate boost circuit and a couple different clipping options.

If it's a bolt on neck, you'd better buy a new neck.
If it's neck thru or set neck, buy a new guitar

I get it now. Guitars fcked. I guess Glue and clamps is just winging it. Or just seeing what happens.

what sort of guitar is it? as in brand/model

I have seen some pretty decent fixes done by luthiers on way worse damage than that

but it would need to be worth it as the cost can sometimes outweigh the value

so what neck joint is this ? seriously, buy a new guitar and not a Gibson-like one. necks are quite fragile... and I really don't like them.

It's a gibson les Paul special with a thru neck. Can post more pics if needed. Cost $600 so fix isn't effective unless I can do it myself...

Gonso's done a fix on one of them that I know of iirc, he could probably give you an idea of how doable it is imo.

Walnut Top (made of only 1 piece and not 2 glued pieces)
Gotoh hardware
Dunlop 6105 frets
Graph tech nut
Dimarzio air classics humbuckers (1 volume control - 5 way switching).
Red Ruby stain on the top
White pearloid pickguard
Gold for the binding (gold leafs 24 carats)

It took me some time. didn't check out how long tho. I'm not a professional guitar builder. I just have a huge shop, more than the necessary tools.

I actually built it before they made the new Fireman FM100.

I sent pics to Paul Gilbert and he replied me that was awesome so my guess is that he loved so much that kind of finish that he ordered a similar thing to ibanez custom shop lol.

the idea of finish, gold etc... was mine. so no, they are no kits available. it's a unique custom built I made for myself.

it's a thing of beauty and you should be very proud of it

I'll see if I have time to record some sounds with it. it sounds incredible mainly due to the fact that the neck is huge and the tone is coming from the thickness of the neck, neck joint type of wood used and pickups.
and result is really great. I highly recommend the dimarzio air classic humbucker neck. i'm in love with this one. capable of deep clear tones.
and the special wiring I did allows me to use the humbuckers in a stratish like sound, to have more clarity also.

Standard La Cabronita S1 Wiring

Not sure of her weight, but feels identical to my 52RI and lighter than my Nashville. I’m Guessing right at 7.5 pounds.



The Slimtone looks, feels, and sounds great. I may be tinkering a little with the S1 circuit. It is a bit too muddy when in the "Tone Rolled Off" position.
