Lemme tell you what I got imo.

I have a can of green rustoleum gloss protective enamel, and a can of rustoleum crystal clear enamel. I didn't get any primer.

Should I use a primer? If so, what should I use with the enamel paint? Also, can I use the enviortex lite with this enamel paint?

Damn that ****'s pretty expensive isn't it?

I didn't use primer but made sure to sand the enclosures well and wiped them clean with naptha. You can use envirotex with enamel as that is what I did.

It is expensive but worth it as you will never have to recoat it as it will not chip like clear enamel.

should I cover the screw holes on the bottom plate or should I paint it and paint the screws too?

Painting Screws looks amateur and lazy to me. Sort of like painting over wall sockets and window frames.

I never had a problem with the screw holes but I guess you could cover them. I never paint the screws.

If you use the Envirotex, you will have to cover the screw holes though.

now that i have my new guitar i kind of feel like messing around with my squire to learn the inner workings of it. will probably **** it up beyond repair, but who knows. hmmmm where to start?

no, it is a lot fuller of a sound imo. not quite as thin and tinny.

have any of you changed the capacitor in a strat? If so, what did you use? is a .022uf standard?

Yeah, that's standard, but it's the cheapest mod you can make, so experimentation won't cost you but a couple of bucks.

The .022 and .047 are standard for Fender and Gibson, but a lot of people prefer smaller values these days. I took a piece of cardboard and hot glued some different capacitor values to it and I have a couple of wires with alligator clips on the end so that I can attach them to the guitar electronics and easily play around with different values. I used the bigger ones that are normally used in amps as they are bigger and easier to work with, and the voltage value doesn't have any effect on the sound. The Mallory ones that I used sound great.

You guys use your tone that much? Did you find much of any difference with the tone set to 10 (assuming you're not using no load pots)?

Everyone should probably do a treble bleed mod, though.

I find one sweet spot (usually around "7") on my Tone control and park it there. I very occasionally use my S1 Switch which is just a circuit with a different set of Caps to give a darker tone.

A mod I am leaning towards is keeping the main circuit as-is and then tinkering with the Caps (maybe eliminate them completely) in the S! Circuit to go the opposite way and get a more Ice Pick tone.

I need a bit of painting advice.


I'm painting some metal (aluminum I believe) guitar pedal enclosures and I've done the bottom plate of one and I'm not real real happy with the results. The color is good, it's just not very smooth. I want it to be nice and smooth.

What I did was scuff up the plate with 100 grit, apply a few coats of primer, a few coats of rustoleum color and then clear. (giving time between coats obv)

Should I be sanding after some coats or something? Should I have sanded the plate with a higher grit before putting on the primer? If I just sand it now with a high grit will that work out?

I use a higher grit and wet sand as well, using soapy water. I will have to check what grit it is, but I know it is higher than 100.

I use mine quite a lot. Les Paul neck pickup with the tone rolled all the way down is the Sweet Child O' Mine sound and I use mine from there all the way up to 10.

Built a pedal, sold it to some guy and drove like 40 miles to bring it to him, give him a year warranty. I then find out that the AC adapter jack that I wasn't able to test as I didn't have an adapter didn't work so I then proceed to go all the ****ing way back to pick it up and bring it home and fix it. I fix it, then I notice some popping when turning the pedal on. I email him asking if he noticed any as I didn't want to drive all the ****ing way back there to bring it back, just to find out I gotta go all the ****ing way out there to fix it again. He says he did, so I proceed to spend three ****ing days trying to figure out how to get rid of it. Turns out idk what the **** the deal is, so I take the pedal and his money back over to him and say if the pop is too bad I'll give him a refund. Get there and it's not too bad on his amp, everything's working fine. He's satisfied.

Then he said he wasn't really worried about the popping, just the AC jack.

also, I have a new AC adapter

I've been really quite unsure of myself imo. But I took that pedal in to the local music store to talk to the tech guy there and he and another guy said they really liked the pedal and I did a good job on it, so maybe I have some potential to be good at this imo.
