Proof that the Musician forum works? Or that it attracts the strangest types of spam?

I liked it, felt like I was playing a video game high as ****.

Felt the synth was way to over powering though and was craving a crunchy ass guitar to show up at some point. Still enjoyed it.

Thanks! Instrument levels are a little off, I think both synths are too loud.

I listened to it once a few days ago. If it's the one I think it was, I remember it reminding me a bit of:

I like it, feel like it would go well with a MegaMan X level

It's kinda like what I imagine some Dream Theater would be if they did some electronica

Re: Made a "song"

Thanks guys,
I think it has a nintedo-ish style in it. And I'm glad some of you hear it as well.

Made another one; http://soundcloud.com/mrhnmr/yhes-raaka2
Again just smashed clips together. Instrument levels should be somewhat better, but I'm not quite sure. Any thoughts? About anything?

Re: Made a "song"

I think "quite2" is ****ing awesome and i don't usually use this word too lightly. reminds me a lot of Zappa's Synclavier work from the album Jazz from Hell, check it out if you dont know it.
Personally i would have some parts that are less "dense", like add a little more silence so to speak; also might try to have some parts of the lead played by a different instrument? Of course thats a matter of taste tho.

How did you go about recording/producing this song? What software / VSTs did you use? Recorded the synth through a MIDI keyboard? What about the drums? sounds like a lot of programming work..

Thanks. I'll have a go at Zappa then.
I think your points are good and I'll use them if I get to this song again.

I made the song with reason 5, created my own instruments, except the drums. Drums are from some reason drumkit collection, which I edited somewhat.
Played some parts with my midi keyboard, but not much since I can't really play piano.

Re: Made a "song"

Well, lets bump this thread again ( shameless self-endorsement ) .
Made another "song":

Little different this time. Anyone having clipping problems on this one?

Also made a little "demo" with guitar:

Thoughts appreciated!

I like them, although they are both pretty different from each other. How did you record the guitars? And what software did you use for the instruments in the first one?

Re: Made a "song"

Listening to the first tune right now. I dig it. Def hear the Nintendo aspects and am a really big fan of the melody, esp the melodic rhythm

If I had to offer any criticism, it would be to explore a wider range of cymbal sounds. I hear crash and hi-hat, as well as what kind of sounds like a really bright splash cymbal. I think some fast ride cymbal "One &a Two &a" type figures would fit really nicely behind some phrases. Also the occasional gong sound possibly?

OP, what's your musical background like? You definitely have a taste for polyrhythm
