Loop pedals?

so i stumbled upon a video of a chick making up an original song with a loop pedal. I was like DO WANT. The pedal wasn't that bad either.

I don't know anything about them. I'm pretty impressed how creative some people can be using them.

I just started doing some research. I was wondering if anyone here knew alot about them? I was just gonna pick up the cheapest obv. If I just buy like a Boss RC-2 will that suffice for someone that just likes to mess around? or are the features too limited that a more expensive model might be better? one question i was curious about is how long of a riff can they record for example?

anyways thx for the help

Re: Loop pedals?

i have an rc 300, its expensive and is pretty feature laden. ive been playing around with it for a month. it has a 3 hour memory bank, so a single riff can be as long as you want. I posted a track im working on in the cello loop thread below...

Do you have an ipad? I hear that loopy ($9?) plus a pedals is a good solution...

Re: Loop pedals?

I saw a guy live recently that was using the RC-2.

He seemed to be pretty happy with it.

In a solo/acoustic setting (which was his situation) it seemed to free him up alot.

I mean unless you are a genius guitarist, trying to solo on an acoustic guitar without anything behind it, is going to fall pretty short.

I have been contemplating getting one for live as well.

It seems to say they have 16 mins record time and you can store and recall up to 11 phrases.

It also has a tone drum patterns built in, but I am unsure as to the quality.

The guy I saw wasn't using that, he had his guitar running through the loop station then into a Vocal Harmony Box (It was a Digitech Vocalist) and he sounded pretty good imo.

So if a professional can pull off decent stuff for a live gig, then I would be pretty confident it would be more than adequate for just jamming around etc.

The looping really starts @ 4:45 into to song... pretty cool imo. Its amazing what you can do when you have the ability and the technology

Re: Loop pedals?

I have an RC-2 and use it as a practice tool (e.g. play a chord progression, loop it, then solo over it). I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but sometimes when turned on it will alter the tone of my amp.

Know a guy who uses a loop pedal really well, he has a following in the UK:

Re: Loop pedals?

I only used them a couple of times but the basics of the Line 6 Delay pedal (the 4 switch one) did it for me - but if you really wanna get funky like that Scottish chick, you need a better one

Re: Loop pedals?

I can't believe I never noticed this forum before, but if you any interest in looping you NEED to get an iPhone app called EveryDay Looper.

This guy obv works for them and is amazing with it, but I've managed to get competent in very minimal time messing with it:

Also, the craziest looper I've ever seen:

And how do people embed vids in posts?

When I played guitar, I used the line 6 dl4 delay module. Pretty awesome.

Re: Loop pedals?

RC 300 pretty much rapes all other loop pedals right now if you have no budget and are looking to do a bit more complex stuff/live performances. If you're just looking to jam over loops and do a few tracks without build ups/breakdowns, look at the RC-3/Digitech Jamman. They're pretty no frills and on the cheap end... I think they both effectively do the same stuff, it's basically whether you like pedal vs. metal pegs. Personally I like the Boss style of pedal, I found the pegs sometimes hard to hit if you're just jamming with socks/bare feet, and they're sort of uncomfortable.

Dub FX explaining his gear: BOSS GT-10B for voice effects, RC-50 Loop Station with two extra outboard pedals, and the SYB-5 Bass Synth Pedal. Everything is made by Roland.
