If you are a member of any racial minority and you have PERSONALLY experienced prejudice, persecution, discrimination or harassment in a situation where it was 100% obvious it was exclusively because of the color of your skin, I'd like to hear your story. If you don't want to post it publicly I'd love to hear it in a PM.

And at the risk of sounding rude, I don't want any "A friend of my friend who went to school with someone whose former roommate's middle name has 2 letters in common with my aerobics instructor's nephew's favorite fruit had this happen to them" stories, I only want first-hand accounts.

As much as it seems like a no-brainer that racism has been dramatically reduced in the world even in the last 30 years, I'm curious as to how much further we still have to go.

Since this is an international forum, it would be helpful to state your country of residence - I am from the USA and I'm sure attitudes and situations differ in other parts of the world.

This will probably be moved to politics/p unchained, but I got called white boy once. Very disheartening.

I predict great things for this thread.

I should probably clarify the reason I started this thread so that my intentions don't get misinterpreted. I'm hoping it will remain 100% safe for work.

I'm sure most of us know what Colin Kapernick did. Without saying whether or not I agree with what he said and did, it *did* make me stop and think.

"As much as it seems like a no-brainer that racism has been dramatically reduced in the world even in the last 30 years, I'm curious as to how much further we still have to go." <==== this is pretty much the heart of it. I want to judge for myself the extent to which racism is still a problem in society - i.e. is it just a pocketful of ignorant jerks who get all the press because nobody reports it to the news every time somebody is NICE to a person of color, is it MORE than just a pocketful of jerks, i.e. are there powerful politicians, law enforcers, businessmen etc who are racists and abuse their power to further their prejudices etc.

So I'm HOPING this thread could end up being a CONSTRUCTIVE avenue for discussion about the extent of the racism problem not just in the US but worldwide.

And you're going to do that based on a few anecdotal comments reported to you in this thread? Seriously?

I'm a white male in his 50s. Would it be okay if I gave you a list of all of the times I've oppressed a minority, or do you just want to stick with stories from the whiners?

I once took my wife into a Mexican restaurant we used to order from for delivery and loved. Had never seen the place in person but food was great. Turned out to be a bar with 3 tables and someone's mom making food in the back.

Walked in and it was like something out of a Western movie. Except with Mexicans instead of cowboys. All Mexicans at the bar. All staring at these two white people

We felt different

Food was okay

The karaoke guy 6 feet behind me wasn't the best

Every poster so far is white. I wonder how long before this thread on 'racial minorities personal experiences with racism,' gets it's first post from an actual racial minority.

I was in downtown LA, driver window down. Dark skinned black woman at bus stop started yelling at me:

"Hey mulatto boy!
You think you better than me?
You think you better than me, mulatto boy?
**** you, mulatto boy!"

This went on until the very long light changed.

Does this count?

This thread has really opened my eyes to just how racist minorities can be. Thanks OP.

Lol! BigPoppa, this sounds like the **** I put up with every single day at work. I feel like I'm in the racial minority at work and they can make your life very unpleasant. It will **** with your head and heart for sure. It will change you as a person when subjected to that on a daily basis.

I'm white.
I was in a mall the other day, and I said "hi" to a black guy and he just nodded.

I don't think you're allowed to talk about race these days if you're white.

So he met your microaggression with a microaggression of his own.

I'm microshocked.

I am white and in my mid 40's. I was walking down Central Park West in Manhattan recently and a very large black man was crossing my path and as he came within a few feet of me he yelled at me calling me a "Saltine" and a "Cracker" as he passed.

I ignored him but 10 seconds later I heard a scream from behind me. I turned to see a young white girl shaking and learned that after this man passed me he has spit in her face as he passed her. He just continued to walk down the street. No one did anything.

Does this qualify as racism or do you only want to hear about racist white people?

Well, OP did specifically ask about racist experiences of racial minorities. White people are not a racial minority in the U.S.A. Sir.

Oh you were attempting humor, well in that case helps if it's actually funny. Then I could have picked up on it, and had a chuckle, as apparently was your intention.

No it was not humor. It actually happened.
