Good camera for making YouTube vids?

The only camera I have is the camera in my iPhone 6-plus The quality is not so great when the lighting is on the dimmer side. It looks awfully grainy. I do like the sharp quality when the lighting is good, OTOH.
Would a $300 or $400 digital camera offer significantly better quality? If so, which would you recommend? I basically wanted to know how the iPhone stacks up to cameras in the $300-$400 range. Some of my Apple crazy friends make it sound like the iPhone camera is the nizzle nuts. I don't know enough about cameras to know if that's truth.
Thanks

I'm not a photographer or videographer but I'm quite certain a decent DSLR will put an iphone's camera to shame, and will handle low light a lot better. I'd look for a Canon or Nikon DSLR in that range.
