As someone already mentioned, Layer two kicks, espcially a higher clicky type kick. I assume you're using FL? I use Ableton and the Corpus audio effect is great for adding sub bass to a kick.

There is loads of free good kick samples on this site http://www.wavealchemy.co.uk/ plus some free drum tools which include a subenhancer for kicks. All the free stuff is well worth a download.

To all ableton users, what your thoughts on the built in audio effects? reverb, compression, filters, EQ etc.

I'm curious if any third party plug ins will be noticeably better?

The only other plugins I use are Waves for the limiters, multiband and a few others for lil things on instruments which Ableton probably has too. I use Ableton reverb/eq/compression. Abletons stuff is really good for me and there's more than enough. I don't really know how much better things can be though as I have limited exp with 3rd party plugins.

live's plugins are not that bad for somethings (the eq 8 is pretty sexy), but the majority of their plugins aren't as good as others out there. brainworx, waves, ohmicide, sugar bytes, etc. all have some pretty solid plugins (there are definitely a **** ton more) that have more selection and better quality than the majority of live's plugins.

I wouldn't mind being added to skype group. I'm mostly into DnB, trance, electronic etc.

I'm in my first year of audio production and currently use student version of Protools 10. Its a great program but I feel it doesn't give me much in the way of freedom to create music as much as it does mixing, mastering etc. I've been toying with buying Ableton live because I hear its pretty standard for making EDM.

Also does anyone have recommendations for a drum pad/beat machine?

ive become pretty obsessed w ableton. if anyone would like to share songs and give feedback id like that. still a complete noob but starting to get the hang of things and could use help figuring out the best order of things to work on. PM me or post here ill PM you. song for the lols...

http://soundcloud.com/pageh656/wettywoop/s-nPb18

off the top of my head: i have no idea how to do transitions/buildups etc. so all those sound like crap, among other things. and too repetitive but i gotta learn more about using effectrix and how to switch between the diff effect keys throughout song. effectrix and WOW are fun as hell.

Hey I'll send you a PM. I don't know what effectrix is though? I'll give you my soundcloud so you can hear what I've managed to do with Ableton so far.

it is from sugar bytes, you use it to make like sequenced glitch effects on a loop. i started checkin out some plugins once i read the one post saying they were better than the ableton plugins.

http://www.sugar-bytes.de/content/pr...ex.php?lang=en

the WOW filter is also really cool and ive seen it used in quite a few tutorials/in the studio vids.

had a question about a sound from a song i was hopin to make something similar...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-3cEpFhtc4

any ideas how i can make the scream whine sound that starts at :55? seems like lfo modulation but how does he make that wind up/saw squeal noise? 1:23 for example. i dono i have no clue what hes doing rly just want to be able to make that sound lol

guessing id start out in massive, then use real sharp lfo mod or use a step sequencer to control the rate. or he could have it on a macro and recorded that crap while he controlled it, hm

Iuno if this is what you meant but it has pitch bends on it. I would mess around with Operator in Ableton. It's prolly not hard.

ill try, ive only managed some subpar wobbles in operator as of now.

added: thats cool im definitely gettin some of the characteristics but gotta work on the sound. watched a vid about using a grain delay to pitch bend also. ill watch more operator tutorials

^LOL, so that's what hot swaps for...I feel like such a ****** putting them in manually. Also I thought Corpus was just for adding sound effect on any instrument but it was made for drums.

Hey guys,
Pretty happy I just found this. Can I still join the skype group? I'd like to have a group to collaborate/brainstorm/answer questions with.

I like it. Have you seen a tutorial on side chaining? I can give a link for one if not. I don't do it much myself but it's really common these days.

Rc, I like really the beat and chords, can't fault it. I think if I changed anything it would be to make the snare shorter but I'd need to hear that in the song to see if it'd really work better coz it might not... totally a preference thing though. I wonder if side chaining the beat would make it pump a bit more?
