Got a pretty sweet deal on an electronic kit last week. It's a multi brand kit that I find around for $500ish online. $100 from some lady on craigslist who wanted it gone because her son only played it a few times and it took up space. score! Should have had this in college. I can even come home from the bar and play without pissing anyone off.

Congrats dude. Just got home from the bar. Would be kinda cool to play some drums and not piss off the neighbors. Definitely one nice benefit of the electronic kit.

Thx. It's nothing fancy but for $100 I'm really happy. I guess there are better cymbals that aren't too expensive? I can't find where I read that but someone recommended this kit and buying different cymbals.

I'm going to have to try and find it because they linked some that were relatively cheap. Other add on electronic cymbals are spendy from what I've seen around just now.

Not too familiar with the add-on cymbals. I know the Roland one's are pretty nice but I'm sure that comes with a significant pricetag.

I've wanted a Roland TD for so long for this reason. Once you demo one, any lower end electronic just feels like a waste of money.

Regarding Bozzio being a tool, that was my exact impression of him when he explained his massive kit in some youtube video I saw. He said something along the lines of "it's not big for the sake of being big, it's because I need all these drums to make chromatic sounds, not diatonic ones." He's clearly talented, but also a huge prima donna. I suppose that's pretty standard for many high-caliber musicians.

That's awesome. My first percussion professor had played with him a bunch, but I came along a few years after he died. Must have been sick though.

I find myself messing with different syncopations/polyrhythms when I'm just sitting around. Drives my gf nuts though.

Also, Swisses off of both hands? Most people (most of my students, anyway) just bother to learn RRL-based swiss triplets. Then when I ask them to play them off the left in an audition, heads explode.

Been plowing through this book lately. Pretty decent stuff for rudimental snare drumming imo.

Anybody else writing battery/pit parts for any drumlines this Spring/Summer? I'd love to trade feedback with people and get some people to take a look at some stuff I've written as well.

Pretty dumb imo that someone changed it . Anyways, welcome Vintage.

Funny thing about Swisses for me... I am right handed but for some reason, doing left handed Swiss Army Triplets were easier that right handed ones for me . Weird

I play bass but my friend has a drum kit in the basement. I've dinked around on the set, but outside of doing beginner rudiments and fills havn't done a whole lot on it. Is there some path I should follow to progress at it? I'm having a bit of fun and would like to be better at drumming.

Currently writing some technique outlines for marching snare, tenors, bass, and cymbals to get ready for teaching auditions next week.

If anybody wants to take a look before I ship them off, I'd love the feedback!

Came across this vid and thought it was cool. I always preferred Keith Moon to John Bonham, but there aren't too many Moon videos online. Here's a pretty good cover of Won't Get Fooled Again. A teacher and his student are performing it together. Moon definitely wasn't a conventional rock drummer, even though he wasn't the most technically proficient.

Otoh, perhaps I've been underrating John Bonham. This song requires a ridiculous amount of foot independence.

Foot cam version of the same song.

Comparing Bonham to Moon is like comparing apples to hookers. They are totally different. Their styles are nothing like each other imo.

I think they were both amazing! Any musician that plays drums and wants to learn rock should study both these drummers.

I love listening to both of them, although I do like Zep more than The Who.

Yeah, you're right. It's just that, growing up, my best friend was a huge Led Zep fan (and a drummer), while I was a huge Who fan. So we always ended up arguing Bonham vs. Moon.

Its funny how a discussion about drumming always comes back to Bonham.

He sure wasnt the only one who could play... but you cant have a conversation on this topic without including him.

Obv love Bonham

Started working up a few of the Jacques Delecluse "Douze Etudes pour casse-claire" pieces.

Anybody familiar with these? If so, which one(s) do you think would be best suited for an audition?
