Yeah that's a bit more than I want to spend heh. I really just want something to practice on and enter midi into ableton, etc. I don't want to play drumset in a band so I'll only buy an acoustic set again when I move from this place, or get one really cheap to store til I move. Also, I'm so close to a degree I've been thinking about going back sometime now that my business is more established and I will still need to be able to play drumset. Marimba and vibraphone are going to be another story.

What do you guys think the minimum electronic kit I should look at considering I really just want something to practice on that is realistic feeling and reliable with midi entry if I use it for percussion tracks. I think I remember reading a bit on this a few years ago and some kits didn't catch all the ghost notes, etc. a lot of the time. I can't really remember if that was just the installed sounds or the midi though. Technology may have improved since then as well.

Realistic feeling and accuracy requirements will put you into the high end kit realm.

How about just realistic feeling? Recording midi isn't a necessity really. I just thought it'd be nice. I could care less how the drums actually sound. I would only ever use them to practice on.

I have never played a cheap electronic kit that felt realistic. Actually, that it what bothers me the most about electronic kits... the way they feel.

Well, in my daily browsing of Craigslist for deals I've been seeing someone selling:

The price difference compared to what was posted before is quite extreme.

I'm not a big fan of the electronic kits either and it's because of the feel, as mentioned already. You just can't execute all the little nuances an analog kit has. You're best bet would be to go to a guitar center or somewhere that has a couple of the e-kits and try 'em out, see what you like or can tolerate. The Roland TD series are definitely the best ones I've tried, but that definitely comes at a price.

I was at NAMM this year and had a meeting with Peavey. On my way there I heard some cool music. It was this. Needless to say, I was 20 late for the meeting, but it was worth it.

Finally got around to watching all that. I most certainly would have been late to the meeting as well. I love the melodic abilities he has on the congas.

OMG gambit, you're sooo lucky to be able to be at those show, and expos like NAMM. I'm so jealous 'cause I'd love to work within the music industry (within a musical instrument maker company). Any tip for me ?

Yeah I agree.. I always feel lucky that I get to go to those shows

As far as advice, contact the company you wanna work for. Talk to people that work there and ask about their background. Make sure you bring something to the table so they have a reason to hire you. Most of all, just keep trying until you are where you wanna be.

Good luck!

This. Super important. It's not easy to make it in music but it's achievable if you want it.

A contribution to the thread...

I don't think it's that big a fail but entertaining for sure.
