really?

that seems strange

I figured the chorus was 4/4 but the verse seems not.

What's weird is that 4/4 is about the only time signature I get!

I feel I am in twilight zone at the moment.

What is going on?

You know in the verse there is the bit with it that progresses from the F to the C before the Bb and it's a strange stop/start progression (on the C), is that what is making me feel that it's somehow different?

*edit - I think it is. I just counted it out and it seems 4/4 but that stop/hold on the C is like a 1/2 measure or something that has made me think differently.

thanks guys

I've found errors in online sheet music before. I didn't really check this out. Just googled it.

Nice.

Thanks.

Unfortunately I am not a technical musician and I don't read sheet music apart from the very basics. I am, however, fluent in gibberish as evidenced by my previous post.

I think the thing with it is, that it is the rhythm and the chord changes that are strange, rather than the time signature (obviously given that it is in 4/4 as Mitch and lowkey pointed out).

It may be Mick Fleetwood's style too. It's probably quite loose. Sort of like Ginger Baker on "Sunshine of Your Love" - It feels so wrong, yet it is so amazingly right.

I'm a bit dumb on a lot of this theoretical stuff, so forgive me.

It definitely doesn't feel like 4/4 because of the swing/way it's played/some other technical word I don't know, but it is

The chorus is a pretty straight foward beat but the verses are a little different. I think what is throwing you off is the emphasis on the AND of 3 and the AND of 4.

Pretty cool song imo

No worries. I recommend learning to read sheet music other than just tab. All the guitarists I went to music school with that couldn't read music had such a hard time understanding the theory stuff being discussed in classes because they had problems reading the examples, etc. Some were great guitarists too and I think they could have been much better had they been able to concentrate on the theoretical stuff being discussed instead of having to try to understand the music they were looking at 1st. Some failed out because of it and learning to read music is soooo easy imo. It just takes some time. Listening to pieces while watching the sheet helps a lot. Doing the very basic piano lessons in beginner books explain most of the basics. I only had a few years of like middle school level piano and sax and then drum stuff before college and I grasped things so much better than the guitarists that hadn't read anything other than tab.

My point in this drunken ramble: if you could read music that sheet would have answered your question in like 10 seconds and a few plays through the beginning.

Yeah I think that you're right. It's definitely the verse putting me off.

Also, because I am singing it as well, it's sort of a strange one where the vocals come in, sort of off beat.

When I first started playing I was quite proud that I was self taught. I shied away from the theory side because it sort of both scared me and I thought it might somehow diminish my achievement.

I realise how silly this was, as music is a language and it would be like going to Spain with a phrase book and no actual knowledge of Spanish, you'd get by, but you'd never really undertsand.

I think it was good for me to learn that way though, and now, as you say, I should start to embrace the theory side more.

You are right about the sheet music to this, though I can read that much!

So I should have worked it out from that. The thing was that the guitarist who was having problems with it is a really good musician, so I got it in my head that there was something different with the time signature, whereas I should have just spent a couple of minutes counting it out.

Great song imo, by legend band.
that is 4/4. the end of each verse sounds like they throw in a measure of 2/4 at the end, but goes right back. thought there was some strange stuff in there, but really don't think so tbh.

Wow, love crazy marimba. I like that core groove, would be a nice hip hop backbeat. Gadd is indeed quite tasteful.
