Paradiddles and stuff are the building blocks to good grooves.

Lol... Double paradiddles split between the left foot/left hand over the single paradiddles split between the right foot/right hand

GTFO

Might as well be doing triplets with your dick at the same time too

Thats some skills right there

Just thinking about that exercise hurts my brain.

Re: *** Tap It or Beat It ***

tito puente did a master class when i was in college and introduced a beat that not one of us could do, and this was a music heavy college. he said it was a classic latin beat of
1 2 3 45...... then sometimes while one hand was on the one the other would start the same rhythm on '45' and keep it going. it is so syncopated i was floored.

1 2 3 45 1 2 3 45
45 1 2 3 45 1 2 3

sounds cool, but blew my mind when trying to think of how beats landed.

Re: *** Tap It or Beat It ***

You mentioned Tito earlier in this thread and I went to youtube and pulled up some of his stuff. He is on a whole different level also. Seems like he has more fun than anyone else when he plays. Im kinda jellous that it wasnt me who was able to take a class with him. Latin music is alot of fun to play on percussion imo.

his class was a riot. he came in and said he wanted to talk for a short time and then do some playing. he talked for about an hour and a half before playing. the class was scheduled to only be about 1:45. then he proceeded to blow our minds and toss his sticks across the room a couple of times. he seemed to be drunk as hell. was fun as ****.

paradiddles are the building blocks to complicated beats, not groove

I agree that a groove does not have to include any complicated beats, but could you please list an example of any beat/groove that does not include a rudiment?

Same, sorta. When I had multiple kits, I had one all Paiste kit, then the other was a mix of decent sounding zildjian/sabian cymbals. Sorta like the snare below, while working at Guitar Center (ugh..) I'd happen across a really sick sounding cymbal and just snap purchase it.

All the reps from the different companies were really funny. They would throw casual snipes out at other manufacturers. I remember specifically the Zildjian rep talking up their manufacturing process, then gave a backhand compliment to Paiste for theirs.

Tama's Bubinga series is really nice stuff. Good choice imo
Yeah, tapped it with a stick once then instantly bought it.

Odd thing is, I wasn't even considering buying a snare on that trip.

Well, I mean if you introduce a new syncopated rhythm to someone, it's not going to be something they can instantly pick up.

Some pretty good drumming imo but the guitar at around the 10 minute mark drove me nuts! WTF????? I tried so hard to just listen to the drums at that point (which was pretty sweet) but that guitar was pissing me off.
