Same, sorta. When I had multiple kits, I had one all Paiste kit, then the other was a mix of decent sounding zildjian/sabian cymbals. Sorta like the snare below, while working at Guitar Center (ugh..) I'd happen across a really sick sounding cymbal and just snap purchase it.
All the reps from the different companies were really funny. They would throw casual snipes out at other manufacturers. I remember specifically the Zildjian rep talking up their manufacturing process, then gave a backhand compliment to Paiste for theirs.

sounds cool, but blew my mind when trying to think of how beats landed.
Well, I mean if you introduce a new syncopated rhythm to someone, it's not going to be something they can instantly pick up.
