Re: The Drumming Thread - *** Tap It or Beat It ***

What's up guys. Haven't been in here for quite a while and thought I'd drop a hello. I see some Bonham discussion above. Definitely a ruler. I also agree that Danny Carey is bad as hell. Love listening to his work.

I had mentioned earlier ITT that I couldn't find my copy of Stick Control but am happy to report it has turned up, along with a nice book of guitar chords I also hadn't been able to find.

Re: The Drumming Thread - *** Tap It or Beat It ***

I want my drumset! Sick of living in an apartment. Anyone watched the street beats vid yet? @1:47? Yeah, that's a single kick pedal. So sick. The latin groove right before it is bad ass. I love the shuffle @4:37. This man inspires the **** out of me.

Hi

I marched div 3 many moons ago, was always teaching/writing instead of marching div. 1. Huge fan though and have tons of connections in the DCI world.

Bluecoats were amazing this year. Shafted IMO

Hello and welcome to the Studio

I am a fan of DCI. Have been for a long time. Had a brother who marched Glassmen in the 90s. I personally never marched, but was around it alot.

Do you march?

Re: The Drumming Thread - *** Tap It or Beat It ***

I marched a couple years ago, did one season in open class. The corps was bag so don't ask lol. The only thing I can really brag about is taking private lessons from Tom Float for a year and a half. I did one season of indoor with PCC as well. I loved that line...being able to play rolls at 140 as a full battery is total sickness. That might be lol status to some people...but I came from 2 years of parade band in high school (started drumming junior year) so comparing it to that, plus my meh experience in DCI, made it feel like a drummer's cloud 9.

Tom said he was ganna hook me up with one of his drums from Tama back when they were just coming out, but we got out of touch and it never happened. BBV post itt I guess. I can't say enough good things about him though...as god-like as he is as a drummer, he is that good of a person as well.

@Vintage
I haven't been following DCI much in the past few years, but I'm gradually getting back into it. All I know from 2012 is that BD had an accelerando roll in their drum break and SCV got 2nd or 3rd in drums. Carolina Crown took first right (overall, not just drums)? F*** I don't even know lol.

In terms of personal practice...I've been working on Red's Rhumba for a little while here and there. I think I'm pretty close to saying I can play it at a decent level. My chops come and go since I don't drum as often as I used to. You guys still peck around from time to time too right? Or is it just me? lol

Btw, can you guys recommend a cheap but good quality electronic drum set? I'm tired of saying I drum but I can't play drum set (decently). Pretty pathetic obv.

Ya I've been practicing more lately than any other time in my life. Studying with Tim Adams will do that to you. The guy doesn't play around.

Re: The Drumming Thread - *** Tap It or Beat It ***

so i woke up yesterday and decided i want to learn drums.

i'm 28, play poker for a living, and have a lot of time/$ to throw at improvement. played 8 years of classical piano as a child. haven't played anything seriously in almost 15 years but am very into music.

found a drum coach (wow music coaching is so much less expensive than poker coaching!) and have my first lesson booked this week. going to ask him what type of drums to buy and then buy those asap.

if we define success as being able to play cool stoner rock songs what are my chances of success within a year?

anything else i should do?

Your success will be totally dependent upon how much practice you do.

Also, focus on rudiments/snare work.

Good luck! Playing drums is a lot of fun. Have fun when you play and practice to improve..... let your imagination be your only limitation.

Re: The Drumming Thread - *** Tap It or Beat It ***

Have a question on drumming since I love it but I don't know much about it.

I wonder. The double bass drum, is it usually on one pedal (right) ie; you beat it and then when you release the 2nd beat comes from another [whatever it's called attached to the pedal]. Or is it 2 separate bass drums, one on the left as well so that you use both feet. I remember from when I played the drums 15 years ago that the left foot was usually used to control the hi-hat. Or both, could you potentially have quad drums. ???

I like it a lot but I can't have a drumkit yet. I will when I some time settle down, in my future music room (all instruments ).

thanks for the encouragement and advice. have lots of time to practice, so hopefully that results in a lot of practice taking place.
