You've got to love Google Dictionary at times for those where English in not their first language.

Even better when you look up a word and the definition has another four words which you don't understand and need to look them up too only to repeat this over and over before saying gfy google dictionary.

Webster's dictionary is the same way. So, you have found an alternative or non-root definition, and now you have to find the root word to get the definition.

How do dictionaries work where you are from? I know this isn't the most efficient way, but the unabridged dictionaries are a few thousand pages, so it's as good a place to chop as any.

And actually, now that you mention it, online dictionaries and thesauruses suck horribly. The definitions and alternative words are nowhere as rich and accurate as you'd get in even a $5 paper back dictionary or thesaurus.

The translation from where I'm from is even below google dictionary.

When you say unabridged dictionaries is that https://www.merriam-webster.com ??

I typed in the same word ordinal and could not understand what the definition meant.

Because I don't understand so many words from the English language I prefer a online dictionary vs a book if there is a decent online dictionary available, as I would be looking up words every few sentences.

Every time you learn a new theorem, property, or identity, try to rederive it yourself

So weird. How google defines a word, but in the definition use another word that itself doesn't have a definition of its own.

at least they didnt say crazy elephant.

dictionaries always tried to be so precise that they made many words more confusing that way. thats why the thesaurus was invented.
