Like, not even close. No comparison.

there really isn't any comparison. apples to oranges imo. one is very fluid and the other is pretty technical. almost like saying louis armstrong couldn't hold a candle to winton marsalis (his classical stuff, not his jazz stuff). they were jut totally different players and can't really be compared. they are both amazing, but for totally different reasons.

The guitar playing in the second song is very technical and impressive, but what did it make you feel? Did it make you reminisce about anything? Did it remind you of someone you used to love?

The guitar playing in the first song made me feeeeeeel. It gave me very deep feelings. It made me think of my first love.

The guitar playing in the second song made me feel nothing.

The guitar playing in the first song is far better than the guitar playing in the second.

I would be suprised if it was really the guitar playing... and not the song itself.

Take away the lead guitar playing in Brown eyed girl. Let Yngwie Malmsteen lay down the lead track. How does the song make you feel now?

making something incredible with fewer notes is more impressive IMHO. Not just about playing fast & hard...giggity.

i agree that brown eyed girl has a good feel to it, lirva, but still isn't a final 'x is better than y' comparison. maybe to some, if one is louder it is better... or slower. there are so many ways to compare music that that is one of the reasons i love it. i love slow fun feel good songs and i love intensely technical music as well. doesn't mean one is better than the other.

question mang. here we will compare apples to apples. in this piece there are several movements. which is the best iyo? it is a fun bouncy piece of music that invokes the type of memories which you described and moves on to a crazy technical mess. same music tho.

love this piece by the way.
not so hidden brag.... this was one of the pieces i played for my senior recital. not nearly as well though.

The whole song kicks ass

Each movement plays an equal role in making the song awesome

Also, Wynton is such a sick musician

Some people prefer one, some people prefer the other, I don't see why this has to be a problem? There's no reason why someone couldn't enjoy them both as well, in slightly different ways.

Oh, I hadn't heard of Wynton Marsalis before, but the piece is great!

yeah.. i think it all comes down to personal preferences. There are great compositors and great performers. Look at Kurt Cobain who didn't even knew how to play guitar although he was a good songwriter.

In both songs the guitar playing is accord to context of the genre of the song, and that's what is important. Even with all the technical stuff guys like ingwey will be lost in this bebop song and will be ashamed jam with this kid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0iwgDFk62g, or with this old man http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMi2m...eature=related. Just different styles!
