I'm talking single draw, Ace to 5, with a joker. Fixed-limit betting.

One of the Bay Area card rooms is thinking of reviving the $20 limit game that died out about a decade ago. This was always one of my favorite poker games, though not one of my best, and I haven't played it in many years.

Zadeh's Winning Poker Systems is generally the best book for all of the old draw games. Malmuth's Winning Concepts in Draw and Lowball has some worthwhile stuff in it if you can get past the fact that it's probably the worst-written poker book ever to go to print.

I don't know of anything online.

Thanks for the recommendations. Much appreciated. I have SS2 but not SS1, and I had never heard of Zadeh's book.

No problem, SS1 is definitely what you want. Wish I lived near that game so I'd have a good reason to read that chapter.

I have the Zadeh book at home. I'll took a look and chime in later if I think it may also be useful

Looks like Zadeh's book has a decent amount of material on the game. No clue how they compare though both books got good reviews. SS1 is probably a "more fun" read. Zadeh is like a textbook

How much does the 1 wildcard affect the game? Seems like it would matter much less in lowball.

Much less in lowball than in what, 5-card draw? The joker is more versatile in draw, but it is by far the most desirable card in lowball. Consider drawing one card to 752A vs. 752* with * being the joker. With the joker in my hand, there are 9 unseen cards that pair me instead of 12. With the joker in my hand, there are 16 unseen cards that make my 7-low instead of 12 (or 13 if we include the unseen joker).
