My vote is Omaha 8 or better, cause Omaha isn't spread as a limit game often.

But either way, not very close to holdem, preflop equities run far closer together making 3betting less profitable and cold calling a more reasonable play.

Maybe Stud instead? Isolation raises makes more sense there.

Learn 2-7 first pretty easy transition for good limit Holdem players and gives you ability to sit in HT games

I suggest razz. I've even heard people say you should teach new poker players razz before hold em since razz is all about equities.

2-7 td is most similar ime mostly because, in both games, most of the spots kind of play themselves and balancing your ranges well (against strong opponents) and taking exploitive lines (against weaker players) in the marginal spots is what makes the money in both games.

Heuristics also govern both games to a large degree. For ex. in flhe if the CO raises and SB 3!, it goes hu the to flop and almost every time the SB will cbet. In 2-7 td, whenever you are in position (and often OOP as well) and drew fewer cards than your opponent on the previous draw, your opponent should correctly check and you will almost always correctly bet.

Stud games are vastly different for many reasons. Especially in stud hi, I've made the mistake of incorporating too many flhe thought processes and concepts into stud. Initially I figured stud hi and flhe both utilize the best 5 card hi hand over 7 cards so I will be able to hand read and manipulate my opponents similarly. But lack of community cards, dead cards' effect, and starting w 3 cards instead of two, had/has me paying for my lessons. Big bet are also different (element of bet sizing, in particular). If you're trying to stay within the fl world, 2-7 td is quick and easy to learn most spots, just like flhe.

I'd say Badugi is more like lhe than 2-7 as a TAG game might be more important. For example, A23 is like AK. Can win unimproved a lot vs one player

But regarding the OP, I think the choice should be made by what's available and good in his area and also what he may be interested in as opposed to what may be most similar to lhe. Most of these games are not similar and that is the attraction for many of us. Pick anything, if any skills transfer over than great. Put don't try and put a square peg in a round hole

I would say Stud Hi because 2-7 has more variance, O8 is a split pot game, Badugi is really complex and Razz... well Razz works good together with Stud Hi as answer to your question.

It really depends on what your goals are in poker and where you live. Find out what the biggest game in the room is and learn that.

If you live in CA you should learn 2-7 and it's not close. If you live on east coast maybe want to learn OE instead, most other places PLO probably the answer
