I play in a regular home game and some nights we play dealers choice. While the stakes are small and friendly the game is very wild and we all just try to have fun. The last night we played I made up a game that turned out to be very interesting and was wondering if anyone else is playing something like this with friends?
Dealer deals in regular rotation starting with the winner of the last hand (when there is a tie dealer must deal 2 cards , high card followed by suit determines the bring in.

Everyone is dealt 3 cards face down, the first player brings in or bets to start the action. Now the flop comes and 1st to act must flip over 1 of his 3 hole cards and check or bet. The card now showing must be used in your 5 card hand at showdown.

The turn is dealt after the action is finished, followed by the river and the final round of betting borrowing the style of betting rounds from Texas Holdem.

To summarize the game is played with 3 cards of which 1 must be showing and must be used as part of his 5 card hand. 2 cards out of the 3 hole cards are mandatory to play. You can only use 3 cards from the community board to complete your 5 card hand. 4 rounds of betting are played as in Texas Holdem.

Variants are possibly interchanged like badugi, or just an 8 or better split pot game. You can adjust the game to no limit, or pot limit but the game We play is limit like stud with Holdem betting rounds
Sometimes I would do a betting variation on the last round of bets where you can bet the pot while the first 3 bets are played as a structured limit // so in 2-4 it goes bring in $.50 or bet $1 for preflop, $2 bet after the flop, $2 after turn and then option to bet pot after the river.

Interesting.
And what happens if all-in pre-flop? (For turning your card(s) up.)

So on the flop, people only turn over their cards once it's their turn? Seems like an additional advantage for being in position. Perhaps the game would be better if the players turned over their cards one at a time before the flop round of betting.

For all-ins preflop, I'd figure there would be a pause after the flop is dealt to flip your card in turn.

My understanding is:
• Deal three cards to each player.
• 1st Betting round.
• Flop three board cards.
• Each player exposes a card. (all at once or in order?)
This exposed card must be included in each player's five card poker hand.
• 2nd Betting round.
• Expose a fourth board card.
• 3rd Betting round.
• Expose the fifth board card.
• 4th Betting round.

Each player may either use
• two board cards and three hand held cards or
• three board cards and two hand held cards
to make a five card poker hand.

Is that correct?

If so, we have never played this game. We sometimes play three card Omaha-8 (Three personal cards dealt to each player rather than four or five).

We have never played with one exposed card that must be used to make a five card poker hand. That variation seems interesting.

I'd prefer to make a five card poker hand each player must use:
1. his exposed card, plus
2. exactly one of his two down cards, plus
3. exactly three common board cards.

And I'll try my preferred variation the next time we meet for our dealer's choice private game. (That will be October 21).

(Standard rule for exposing cards in our weekly private game is for everyone to expose at once, so as to cut down on dealer's advantage).

I enjoy games where there is an up card obviously it's better when you have a post flop advantage and have superior hand reading skills so any variant where I can mix in an up card I always will
