First Draw Badugi Question First Draw Badugi Question

Playing 3 handed 75/150

I raise on the button with A 3 5 7

SB calls, BB calls

SB draws 1 (read is that he would usually 3 bet strong 3 cards like A24 A25)

BB draws 1 (read is that he is weak and can be holding hands as weak as a 3 card 10)

Do I draw 2 or 3?

Why would you ever draw 3? Why would you ever raise on the button with a hand that requires drawing 3?

Well I raise planning to draw 2 but after 2 callers and both drawing 1 I'm wondering if my plan should change

Probability of improving to a six badugi in one draw if you draw three is (I think)
15*8*3/48/47/46=0.00347, about one in 288.
Probability of improving to a seven badugi in one draw if you draw two is (I think)
15*8/48/47=0.0532, about one in 19.

Of course there are two more draws possible in each case... but just on the basis of the first draw you're about 15 times more likely to end up with a seven badugi if you draw two than ending up with a six badugi if you draw three.

Meanwhile it's unlikely either one of your one-draw opponents will end up with a six badugi or better.

(I'd draw two, not three... but I don't know this game well).

I like some kind of a snow line, probably 1/snow but maybe even 1/1/0 if you catch 3cd 7 right away

I'm not against a snow in this spot because if both of your opponents are likely to have a rough tri, then they might not hang around as long if you're patting after the first draw. I don't like an open/pat though and only because I feel the raise pre/draw 1/pat line is a more believable line.

Or, you could go the conventional route and raise/draw 2.

Three? You're NEVER drawing 3 here. Never. Even if I thought one of them might have a better two card or a better tri, I'm still drawing 2 and holding the A7. You even said that they're likely to both have rough tris, so even though they're a card ahead of you, they're still drawing rough. I have to be honest, the mere mention that you were thinking of drawing 3 puts all sorts of red flags out there.

Let's hope they both have tris that are searching for a .

Thanks for the replies everyone.

The reason I posted was because I had a friend sweating me and he said he would have pitched three.

You're open folding A7 in three handed play? And against that lineup?

hmmm

Probably also discarding 2, if they play as face up as you say. As if you catch a 7 tri, it would likely be in the lead.
The only thing is it's harder to improve to a stronger tri that wins at showdown if everyone bricks the Badugi draw, and easier for if you would draw 3. And it would be easier for your opponents to improve on their tris, with things like 258 or 249 improving.

So with a planned snow line like that, I assume that you are always discarding the 5 here? And never the 7 or anything else?

Yeah, A7 is near the bottom of my usual button opening range, but if the game is that soft, then it's a pretty easy open.

Why would you ever draw the 7 here (on a snow)? It seems logical to draw the 5.
