I've been playing OFC on an app for a couple years, mostly against a friend but some randoms too, and I don't think I've ever discussed strategy much.

I mostly play pineapple (get 3 cards, discard 1) and with a wild. This creates higher scoring hands so keep that in mind.

Guess I'll start with some starting positioning questions. I don't know the best plays so I'll go over different things I have done with my thought process of why I do it.

1. Low pair and overs

Example: 55KJ10

Sometimes I'll do 55 on the bottom, going for quads or a boat. J10 in the middle for two pair/straight. King on top to get to fantasy.

Or you could go J10 on the bottom for the straight/backdoor boat, 55 in the middle for trips/two pair and the King on top.

2. Flush and pair mix

Example: A94 suited 92 off

A94 on bottom for a safe flush draw. 9 in the middle 2 on top.

99 on bottom for boat/quads. A4 suited in the middle for flush/straight/Aces for potential fantasy. 2 on top.

3. Lot of options with wild

Example: KQ suited KJ suited Wild

KQW on bottom. KJ in the middle.

KKW on bottom. QJ in the middle.

JW on bottom. KK in middle. Q on top. (Think this is terrible but maybe?)

4. Garbage

Example: K2 suited 98 suited 5

K2 bottom. 98 middle. 5 up top.

98 bottom. 52 middle. King top.

This is the kind of hand where I struggle the most. K2 on the bottom you're limiting yourself to the flush essentially (could back into a boat) and chances of that aren't great. The 98 gives you flush and straight draw options. If you draw a King you're kinda trapped no matter what happens.

For #4, the 2nd set is much better imo.

Always putting the jack on the bottom with the pair as back up in case I do not hit any royalties but manage to 2 pair bottom and middle with the K hopefully allowing me to get FL.

I'm gonna blow your mind - you don't have to put a card on top in every set.

3. KKW on bottom. J in the middle. Q = top

BTW How many points is KKKKW in the bottom? How do you name it? Poker?

You would call it 5 of a kind. Some games with wild cards say 5 of a kind beats everything although others say 5 of a kind loses to royal flushes but beats all other straight flushes. I've never played OFC with wilds so idk how much it's worth.

It's a 35 point royalty. Beats everything.

Seems like a good way to get to fantasyland if we can bink a straight or flush in the bottom. I'm prob a pretty big fishcake in this game though so let's see what others say.

Any value in using a small pair right away up top as you try to salvage this hand? Or just start a club flush on the bottom? Also, just started playing a couple days ago, but straights on the bottom don't seem to work well as you are almost guaranteed to be beat by a non-fouling opponent.

The fact you think that is a crappy hand is a problem. You probably can get to fantasy land with that hand 25% of the time. Set empty / 86 / 33T

OK, you're thinking here most likely punting the bottom heads-up score (unless you can make a boat) in favor of getting like QQ/2 pair/trips, 2 pair for FL?

2. 665/K/Q although i can see 66/K5/Q
3. 9977/J. If a 7 is dead 99J/77 (maybe even a dead 9 but definitely dead 7)
