I play on swcpoker where we play for micro bitcoins. This tourney is limit badeucy with 16 total entrants and no rebuys allowed. The tourney cost 10 chips to enter. Each chip is 1/1000 of a bitcoin, or about $2.6 a chip at the time of the tourney. So it cost about $26 to enter and there is a guarantee of 210 chips, or about $546. 6 spots pay and there are 13 players left. I'm third in chips with about 4.2k, but I'm chipleader at my table. Late registration is open for another 20 minutes or so.
blinds 75/150
cutoff opens, I 3 bet 432r on the button, folds around and cutoff calls.
we both draw two. I brick.
he bets, I call.
he draws one, I draw two. I pick up a suited 7.
this is where it gets fuzzy, I think he check raised and I 3 bet?? then he called.
he stands pat, I draw a deuce for the low pair and I still have the nut three card badugi.
he bets and it's on me.
Some notes on the cutoff:
Solid small stakes regular. Gamestarts all kinds of games and seems to play them well. Never sits my limit holdem tables, but will compromise by agreeing to play HOE on occasion. We've had some fun battles and I think he has a small edge on me in most games, but probably a big edge in badeucy because I suck at badeucy. I'm pretty much playing for the overlay.
No you don't. You have a 3card and a wheel draw w one draw left. You should have plenty of strong badugis you can play this way. His line is super strong so your 3b is quite bad. You could conceivably have a small free roll but given his line you are probably drawing very thin.
Drawing 1 on the 2nd would suggest he has a badugi and is trying to improve to a scoop hand. So not sure why you'd want to bet your crappy deuce hand and three card 4 into that range. Three betting against this line is just nuts, especially if you're going to three bet and draw against pat.
I feel that there are plenty of hands that bet in a 2-2 spot without a badugi. It's quite strange that he checked in a 1-2 spot and that is the only reason I think 2nd is close to a check.
Surprised at the responses: I'd happily bet when he checks to me and don't think its very close. I see people check in this spot fairly frequently and its a 3 card 7/3 card 8 with a low draw at a significantly higher frequeny than it is a hand going for the c/r.
When bob 3 bets pf and takes 2 he obviously has a pretty smooth 3 card and is very likely to still call and draw 2 on the end, so a lot of people dont want to bet the 1-2 spot with a hand like 257(6) or more likely 258(4) type stuff when they are basically getting free rolled by BOB having 2 draws to improve on the low and already having the badugi locked up if they brick.
There are lots of differences between holdem and mix games. One good example is it's a bad idea to construct any bluffing range in split pot draw games. Your. Basically gonna be getting free rolled for half at best 100 percent
I can see 3 bet bluffing if for some reason you suspect villain is in total airball mode, or does things like break and check fold if he doesn't improve frequently. In general, though, it seems ill advised and I definitely wouldn't do it with a hand that seems more like a bluff catcher.
