27TD: made 876 OTF 3 way OOP
Another tricky hand from day 2 of wsop 8 game ...
Reads:
V1: Steve sung (mix game pro though I didn't know who he was at the time). We had played together most of day 1 and he seemed solid TAG.
V2: another young tourney pro I think who I had seen play a few orbits and was on the weak tight side.
Stack size: hero is short w ~9k at 1/2k level (500/1k blinds). Villains cover
Hero is SB w 7642.
V1 (utg) opens, V2 (btn) flats, hero 3 bets, BB folds, villains call.
1:2:2 ... Hero catches an 8
Flop (10SB): bet, call, call
0:1:1
Turn (6.5BB): bet, call, call
0:0:1
River (9.5BB): check, bet, call ...
Hero? (1.5BB left)
Comments on all streets welcome.

Re: 27TD: made 876 OTF 3 way OOP
Super sucky spot. WP though I think.
I can't see how you're good here but I don't know how the live tourney players (even the decent ones) play this game. Can Sung ever be betting the river w/ worse? Then the flat behind, at least as scary... What were villain's ~stack sizes?
You will at least have a few hands to get your 1.5BB in decently rather than be forced in if you were UTG and the hand played out the same...

Re: 27TD: made 876 OTF 3 way OOP
I will roll my eyes durrr-style, call and exit the area when I lose to 875. Im just not going to fold this when there is, albeit slim, a chance we are good.
Turn maybe we can break? Breaking the best hand is so horrible though.

Agree with Journeyman. Your general read on Sung sounds like you're rarely good here, and I don't think he would be making some kind a move multiway. I don't think you can play the hand any better though before the river.

We can't do that, he just called and froze behind us. If you want to break it, you have to on the flop. And that's also probably a bad idea.

Re: 27TD: made 876 OTF 3 way OOP
its the call that makes me wanna fold the most, as he has no reason to bluffcatch or call light.

Yeah I puke folded, then doubled up next hand w 3 betting 853 in position and making 86 OTT only to 3 bet shove 7k w AQ in NLHE over cheech Francesco barbero's AK (EP open 1.2k at 250/500/150). I didn't hold
Why was my read bad?
Remember I had seen maybe a total of <30 hands of deuce w Sung day 1 (of which he played maybe 6) and didn't know who he was at the time ...

Re: 27TD: made 876 OTF 3 way OOP
Taking those hands as the tops of their ranges, you'd need the bottoms to be at least 95432 and 96432 to have the 8% you need to call. If V2 folds all nines but calls 87652, you need 37% equity against V1.
Assuming both are guaranteed to have a deuce and V2's hand was 86542. Ignoring card removal.

I agree w all the comments that this is an easy fold ... that doesn't make it an easy one when the pot is so big and your stack is so small, though.
In a similar vein, should hero call V1's bet if V2 folds? That river bet screams value bet; is hero ever vbetting worse? If so, how often?

Lol of course it's a fold of you know his hand!
Not having the benefit of that info I personally think it's a close call. I highly doubt V1 is betting anything worse than 86 for value there but he only needs to be spazzing/SIWASing/making a weird bluff 8% of the time for a river call to be correct.
