2-7TD - Worth studying? 2-7TD - Worth studying?

Hi,

I normally grind the micros of NLHE on stars, slowly getting better as a player. I got interested in 2-7TD and having been playing on play money. I watched DNegs vid on it, so I got some basic strategy and understanding of starting hands and such.

Are the money games hard to beat? Do the people who sit the .25c fixed limit tables study the game/very good or just idiots trying new games? Is there a lot of free study material on the web? Basically, I wanna know if the game is soft as a whole and worth putting some time into? Or should I just stick to play money and playing for fun?

If you decide to play mixed-games - sure, why not. Any other way doesn't seem playable like it was before... before the big boom, right now is like - no ones cares, no one wants to really play it and most of those who do, know something about it. I would recommend mixed-games or keep on hold'em/omaha or whatever you were playing.

Idk how the micro stakes play online for deuce TD, specifically, but it is def +EV long-term learning deuce well if you're at all interested in playing the mix.

Basically, if you're a TD donk, you're not going to be a winning player in the mix in the long run, no matter how well you play the other games. The deuce pots are the largest in the mix, along with the other TD variants: A-5 TD, badugi, badeucey, and badacey. But because the deuce, A-5, and badugi pots, specifically, aren't split pot games, and because they often generate multi-player action, you've simply must play those games well to be a winner in the mix because those are by far the pots with the most BB's.

So I guess I'm saying: if you have any longer-term goals to move up in stakes and play mid or even high stakes mix, eventually, it's def +EV to invest in yourself by learning the basic strategies of deuce TD at the lower stakes.

GL!

Well I watched that Dnegs video that came out last month or so and was exactly what got me back into it. That was literally the best 27TD video I've ever watched but there aren't many good ones out there.

I can't find the article but I remember I *think* Jungleman was being interviewed about the game and he made a great point basically saying that stars needs to recognize that 27TD is a small edge wild variance game and the rake should reflect that more. That's why it's played preferably high stakes.

So you can really only beat the game if against a fish with high rake or against a less talented yet competent player if the rake is low.

I've been playing 27TD almost exclusively the past month on seals and can assure you with only 1% rake the swings are still huge (I suck kinda tho) as are the pots.

Don't play mixed games. Those are for high stakes or in a poker boom rather than a drought.

Also, if you are not proficient yet at omaha, that is a more worthwhile and profitable game to study. But it's slow and less fun to me and my rakeback payments are always so low with omaha.

I like 27TD because it is the hottest limit game plus there is a high addiction factor especially online. THere is a jackpot feeling to the draws and I found myself dreaming and playing in my sleep after only a few days.

I'm going to give you the advice that is pretty cliche and you hear it right, but it's the honest truth: play whatever is fun to you. You enjoy mixed games/draw games/new games/pure games? Then play 2-7TD! If you don't enjoy the game, you won't put in the time to study, you won't want to play, and you won't win. If you do enjoy it, who cares how "worthwhile" it is. You're not going to get rich playing the micros anyways. If you find a game you love, you'll put in the work, and then eventually you'll win at it. Personally I love all of the above so 2-7TD is one of my favorite games. Right now I'm not too good but one day I hope to be.

Spending time learning ANY commonly spread game is +ev. It prob plays just like a nlhe pool, just a much tinier pool.
