2-7 Triple Draw stack sizes

This question would go for any limit poker game, but I noticed Oogee always sits with 7 BB and auto-tops off whenever he drops below that. I've never let myself have less than 12 BB. Is there an advantage to playing with less than that? I can see that it might change the gameplay on later streets, but I'm not sure if it can be used as an advantage.

maybe he plays some hands shortstacked until he knows his opponent better?

It might be because he has a small edge in playing stack sizes other hs players aren't used to. It might also be to sit with less money on tables waiting for action (keeping less online)
