Speaking of the fail that is Road Dogg and SD!. Not a single post about it during or since it finished after a bunch of posts saying how much better SD! was than RAW last week because blood.

Here's another (very well written) Heenan tribute that has uncanny parallels to the one I wrote:

https://www.theringer.com/2017/9/18/...eenan-obituary

We each highlight Piper's Pit, '92 Rumble, and Bash at the Beach.

There was one other Hogan moment on which Heenan’s presence made an impact. At WCW Bash at the Beach 1996, the night when Hogan joined the nWo and turned heel, Heenan was on the announce team and wasn’t privy to what was about to happen. (Management preferred to keep the announcers in the dark and let them react organically.) Falling back on his glass-half-empty shtick, Heenan accidentally presaged the surprising turn: “Whose side is he on?!”

It was exactly the right question, but nobody even considered that anyone would ask it. The line was edited out of subsequent broadcasts, which tells you exactly what you need to know about Bobby “The Brain” Heenan: He was always fully in the moment and somehow one step ahead of us at the same time.

Do you not buy the possibility that Heenan was in the dark about the Hogan heel turn before the match?

I don't disbelieve that part really. I just think it's crazy for the conclusion to be that the fact that it was edited out in the future is an indication of how great it was. That's...sort of the opposite conclusion from what common sense would dictate, at least to me.

Schiavone, on his podcast, has stated that they did not know it was Hogan ahead of time. I still don't think that excuses Heenan for that call. If nothing else, he should have let it play out before saying anything since there was a real possibility he was turning there. It's not like it was The Dungeon of Doom ganging up on Sting and Hogan came out for the save. There the live would be acceptable. Here were it is the essentially all of WCW vs The Outsiders, it is inexcusable

I took Heenan's line as an attempt to be funny/divert from all of the tension and enjoyed it as such

Nice piece, enjoyed the read!

I cant believe that the announcers in WCW did not know the bookings, that seems crazy!

Heenan built a career out of hating Hogan. At the time, I think I just took it as part of his character that didn't trust Hogan. Most of the stuff he's said as a commentator over 15-20 years wasn't supposed to be taken seriously.

It's literally the worst call in wrestling history, lol at arguing otherwise

Related:

I've got the 92 Rumble on in the background. They showed the famed Barber Shop through the window clip.

Now THAT was a perfect Heenan call. As Shawn hugs Marty, Bobby yells Gorilla "I told ya, I told ya."

Then Shawn kicks him through the window and Heenan yells "I knew it! I knew it!"

Roman gets cheers at the mention of the Shield. WWE has done everything else unsuccessfully to get him over.

Braun destroying Hawkins or destroying Hawkins and then Dean would've been a lot better. I mean it's decent booking if Braun wins clean here but it could've been better.

edit: awesome finish

Wouldn't the ultimate troll be having Sasha win the belt again only to get squashed by Asuka in her first title defense?

Cesaro having his teeth getting pushed up into his gums and then pulled out sounds a hell of a lot more painful than just getting them knocked out

It's so tilting that people don't get this. The lifer heel who is always wrong doesn't trust the lifer face. How does that not make perfect sense in kayfabe. I'll chalk it up most critics not living thru the 80s.

nothing but Balor saying he wanted a shot at the title. Roman did the same. Joe was mentioned somehwere but didn't show. Maybe a 4-way is coming next month.

I don't think that anybody fails to understand the logical kayfabe sense it makes.
