solid list. all of these shows apart from scrubs would be in my top ten. the only ones I would add would be trailer park boys, chappelles show and frisky dingo. i'm not hating on scrubs though, i still enjoyed it. would be in my top 15 for sure along with like 3 seasons of the office, parks and rec and always sunny.

Friends, although "mainstream" and "dumbed down" is clearly near GOAT sitcom status.

Trailer Park Boys is on my personal list of favourites. Scrubs is off. I camt put AD on my list because I didn't watch enough of it. Curb is hilarious and on the list, Seinfeld may be at the top of the list, Futurama, South Park, Simpsons all are high on the list. Community MIGHT crack the top ten, but again I haven't watched a ton of it. Parks and Rec should be added, and 30 Rock needs to be added as well.

WTF at Friends being the GOAT comedy. GTFO, Friends isnt even the best show at being Friends as Coupling crushes it.

Scrubs is another thats just disposable comedy. It had funny moments like Friends, but to name it in a top 10 comedies of all time makes me wonder how much comedy you have watched.

Though i will say one of my favourite jokes of all time is JD and Elliot talking about Grey's Anatomy and how "its like they saw our lives and just put it up on the screen".

Not sure if the bolded is directed at me or not, but I said Scrubs should be off of that list for sure. In fact, IRM and I discussed Scrubs a little bit in a different thread awhile back.

As for Friends being one of the GOAT, I think you have to put it up there. Yeah, it's not as clever and "witty" as many, many other comedies out there, but Friends was the original comedy (along with Seinfeld) to perfect the "blank stare 'you're an idiot'" look that has worked well for so many comedies over the years. In terms of timing of the jokes, Friends could take an obvious one -liner and somehow make it not be cheesy. It worked as a show, and it definitely has longevity now.

I read an article about how Friends changed the english language to insert the word "so" into sentences. As in, that is so crazy, or, that is so not going to happen. But thats just a testament to being ridiculously popular, not being good. It was above average but really basic comedy. Ive seen all of Friends and never once have i heard a joke and thought "holy **** thats such great writing", there was never clever word play, never any crazy puns, even the stories were basic a followed by b closed by c routines. I think the best thing you can ever say about Friends is it was solid. But in comedy terms solid is just ****ty thats popular.

yeah but find shows around at the time of friends that did this stuff....

thats the thing about comedies, new shows build on what was done before. thats why mash and friends belong in any top 10, even if they cant go 1v1 with shows around today.
