American Dad and everything else Seth MacFarlane does is targeted towards teenagers and manchilds. The word brilliant shouldn't be said anywhere near his shows. Yes there are glimpses of funny stuff in there but the overall quality is ass. South Park is brilliant, Curb is brilliant, Simpsons at times can be brilliant. Seth MacFarlane is horrible. I've seen all his shows plenty of times so I'm not hating just for the sake of hating. I'm hating because it deserves it. Like wally said American Dad would be his best work but that doesn't make it good.

I'm not going to derail the thread anymore.

The reason American Dad is so much better than Family Guy is that it ISNT just a series of throwaway jokes and cutaways, every episode is contained fully within the plot and strives towards resolution.

brilliant is not mainstream, brilliant is doomed to fail because it's completely over the average american's heads, brilliant is award winning, low ratings, doomed to fail ****

simpsons is not brilliant, even it's peak isn't "brilliant." same with south park

arrested development was brilliant, futurama's first iteration was brilliant, community is brilliant, even family guy before it got cancelled was ****ing exceptional. there's a reason these shows were/will be cancelled and nonsense like 2.5 men pulls more viewers than any show on television, just like i imagine there's a reason family guy was completely dumbed down when it came back on the air, and there's a pretty solid correlation between that and wrestling. smarks love bryan, punk and y2j, instead we get cena, kane, h, nash and ryder. the former appeals to a group of people who can't stand poop jokes and enjoy metahumor. somehow that group is a niche and not the majority. the majority, according to the money and ratings, anyway, actually prefer the stupider **** that drives us insane. i would prefer mcfarlane not pander to the idiots, but the idiots dictate what we do and don't see, so it's not surprising family guy is 3 minutes plot and 17 minutes cutaway gags

And family guy being terrible is what makes American Dad so fun. McFarlane knows that Fox doesn't give a **** about the show and doesnt breathe down his neck about it, so he gets to do what he wants with it. And it makes for a onderful show.

From this board... to another board... to another board... to the WON board... and back again! 2+2 fantasy booking has the internet going nuts.

Read this on another message board, but my new favourite Royal Rumble scenario is it gets down to two guys (say, Orton and Barrett) with the #30 entrant still to arrive. Orton and Barrett eliminate each other, meaning #30 is the automatic winner. That man is Jericho, who just comes out and cheers, celebrates and cries about his huge Rumble victory.

Seinfeld slaughters every comedy show ever, and was GOAT for nine ****ing years with all of the fan support to back such a label.

I mean I'm all for "gone too soon" shows like AD, but I have serious doubts that they could have been amazing for nine years.

American Dad is literally none of those things you mentioned in your made up definition of the word brilliant. American Dad is 100% mainstream and I highly doubt the majority of their jokes are going over the average American's heads. Most of it's jokes are still just pop culture references and parodies. American Dad rates higher than South Park yet South Park has won more awards. I also wouldn't call a series with over a 100 episodes "doomed to fail."

Saying Simpsons and South Park are not brilliant is a joke but putting American Dad in the same category as Arrested Development and Futurama is just insulting. I agree with what you said about the overall majority always going for dumbed down trash, I just include American Dad in that trash.

That's because batting average means something in comedy. Wading through 20 bad jokes for every hilarious one amounts to a meh watch.
