The eggshell cases on the WM VHS were the greatest thing ever. Opening up one of those sounded like Christmas.

Posted in the NVG thread but wanted to mention again that RAW after WM14 was really good. Watched it in its entirety the other night and there's so many nice little finds in there,The real beginning of McMahon vs Austin behind the big one.

Contrary to reports, Talking Smack was not canceled due to a lack of viewers.

The WWE Network show, popular among fans for its organic nature, was canceled by Vince McMahon.

McMahon, whose appearances at weekly WWE television shows is becoming increasingly irregular, was at TVs this past week. Sources close to the situation reported that McMahon was unhappy with the show and strongly believed it did not serve the company’s best interests.

he cancelation, which was announced this past Friday, upset both talent and viewers.

Despite infrequent recent appearances at SmackDown, McMahon remains the singular voice of his company. He remains looped in on every key detail from Paul “Triple H” Levesque, Stephanie McMahon and Kevin Dunn on Raw, as well as “Road Dogg” Brian James and Michael Hayes on SmackDown. Vince McMahon is by no means detached from his product, yet Sports Illustrated was informed that the 70-year-old is just not as physically present as he once was.

Talking Smack generated headlines through its open, unscripted forum, including seminal moments for The Miz and greatly enhanced the recent heel turn for The Uso’s.

WWE offered the following statement on Friday, stating, “We continuously review WWE Network’s programming line-up based on a variety of factors, including viewership and subscriber research. Talking Smack and Raw Talk will air following pay-per-view events, and Tuesday will continue to feature 205 Live.”

The unscripted nature of the show ultimately played a role in its removal. Despite plans for occasional Talking Smack shows after SmackDown-specific pay-per-views, the long-term plan, per McMahon, is to eradicate the program.
Not enough scripted promos.

I'm continuing in my viewing of WM IV today. Some notes:

*I've always loved Jesse Ventura contending that even if he helped Dino Bravo complete his record bench press, he was only applying two pounds of finger pressure. It was the rare time you heard Gorilla Monsoon actually break and laugh out loud.

*This was Ricky Steamboat's WWF swan song (at least for a handful of years), and it's odd that Jesse acknowledged Valentine beating him as an upset. If the reason for putting Valentine over in lieu of setting up Savage-Steamboat II was just to book Steamboat as worse than a random midcarder, that comment kind of defeats it, plus it makes it look like Savage got an easier pass in the next round.

*I have Jake vs. Rude on right now. I'm having to digest it in parts, because ****. Hadn't really thought about it previously, but the fact that they spend the whole damn match in rest holds seems even more egregious since they were not long removed from an intense blood feud. Somehow in relatively short time, they moved on to just dispassionately sitting in a reverse chinlock for 15 minutes.

*I do prefer the old format of showing backstage promos for guys who weren't about to go have their match right that minute, rather than today's methods where wrestlers seemingly always just do promos directly before their matches. It's a subtle thing, but I think it added something to portray that the wrestlers were backstage and getting pumped up for their match in an hour.

Reading again, I especially like this part of the article because LOL pro wrestling promoters:

Dave Meltzer noted in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer that some people in WWE (the ones "who believe that WWE women all have to be hot) were not happy about the Mae Young tournament. They reportedly felt that a lot of the women didn't meet WWE's standard.

Everything except the final has been taped. Everything airs in September with the final being live.

The tourn does seem kind of lame though because...

Spoiler:
... a lot of favourites were eliminated in the first round and the whole thing seems like it was set up for Shayna Bayzler. Ronda Rousey and her friends were at ringside opposite Bailey, Charlotte and Becky and they teased a 4 horsewomen of wrestling vs 4 women of MMA type thing.

There does seem to be some good things though. They let Kairi use the elbow so lol Bayley. Toni Storm goes deep and she's pretty awesome/hot.

The final is Kairi vs Bayzler. It would be nice to see Kairi win but if Rousey is going to be there live I don't see it happening.

Gotcha I'm going to try to watch it.

In general I sort of agree with the execs that the women in the women's division should be hot but this is based on the assumption that they are poor wrestlers and bad on the mic and otherwise don't bring much to the table as professional wrestlers. Even with the current divas roster, I think using Raw or Smackdown airtime to show women's matches or advance their storylines is -EV because they noticeably less talented and less entertaining than even the low/mid-card men. If they are hot I'm much more inclined to stay tuned in for bad wrestling and promos and at the end of the day I think what they care about are eyes on the TV.

I think you really need another 6-8 Alexa Bliss / Asuka / Charlotte level talents who can hold their own in the ring or on the mic to really solidify the division and make it worthwhile from an airtime perspective.

It's unbelievable to me that Asuka isn't on the main roster yet.

There's no shortage of hot women that are decent in the ring on the indy scene and a few of them are in the tourn.

My problem with the MYC is unlike the CWC, there's already a women's division in the WWE and none of them are in it. So they're trying to bill these women as the best in the world but at the same time keeping them a tier behind the women already signed with the WWE. It's just makes the whole thing seem kind of pointless and more like a tryout for the competitors.

That's what NXT is too. I think it's okay to strike a balance where workers are obviously trying to earn a spot in the big leagues while also trying to make their showcase seem important enough that fans should actually watch it.

If the MYC girls are legit fantastic in the ring then I really hope they are given a chance on the main roster regardless of how they look.

WWE needs to figure out whether there's money to be made from offering high quality female wrestling. They should know more than I do about their business but I really think there's a huge disconnect between what fans want vs. what WWE thinks we want. I think most fans, casual and hardcore, want to see great wrestling first and foremost. I think the women's division would see a huge uptick in popularity if they filled it with wrestlers who are as good as the midcard men. If they keep putting out low skilled divas, it will continue to mostly be a piss break regardless of how pretty they are.

Wow I have to say HHH is winning my respect after watching his series of matches vs Foley in 1997. Some great matches to watch, just watched the 1st match of Cactus Jack in the WWF vs HHH, falls count anywhere on Raw 226

I really couldnt stand him before he introduced Chyna although he had always been decent/smooth in the ring

I always remember the lamest Stunner segment in the lead-up to that Vince Stunner being the one where Lawler trailed him around the ring just blatantly leaning his head forward over Austin's shoulder until it happened.

I got this one wrong. Their blood feud cropped up during the following summer. Now their WM match - while still ****ing awful - makes more sense to me.

I moved ahead from WM IV to SummerSlam '88.

Future WWF/WWE women got half-naked and made out with each other on-screen, and just seeing the back of Miss Elizabeth's bikini bottom remains timeless.

Her and Macho Man were such a big part of my youth that it still saddens me that both are gone (far too young of course)

I definitely credit Miss Elizabeth and Kelly Kapowski as the reasons for me realizing that girls didn't have cooties.

At work I recently pushed off the story of Savage's death as being a car wreck. A co-worker said he looked it up and that the official cause of death was heart attack, as apparently the car wreck was pretty minor. I internally shook my head and thought, "Didn't think you'd actually look that closely into it when we had that conversation..."
