Watching the "jealous eyes" SNME. Aside from the obvious, and what I'm assuming correct, answer - "because Hogan" - is there any reason that Hogan actually goes over in that Twin Towers match? Savage leaving him for dead not only gives him a way to go under to two huge dudes without being harmed, but him taking a loss probably adds heat to the WM V program rather than detracting from it. And the Twin Towers were supposed to go forward as a monster team who would challenge for the tag titles before long.

The only reason that I could come up with that the result makes logical sense is that Hogan winning makes it easier to seamlessly send him to the locker room to go finalize the Savage heel turn, but it seems like you can do that without him going over.

Not only did he go over, but then he was seemingly going to take a post-match beatdown so that the Towers could get their heat back...of course, he even recovered and quickly fought off the post-match double-team. ****ing Hogan.

The bolded is what I thought upon reading your first paragraph. Nothing else makes sense. I wouldn't put this on Hogan either. Vince still saw him as the dominate force (in sports entertainment!) going forward and wouldn't sacrifice the clean pinfall with Akeem and The Big Bossman. Remember, he hadn't been cleanly pinned in the WWF since coming back in 1984. The only pin he actually ate was from Andre as even in his Survivor Series matches, he lost by countout and/or dq. To waste a pin on those two seems meh and perhaps drops Warrior's accomplishment down a peg at WM VI.

I guess I wouldn't see it as a particularly clean pin for the Twin Towers given the abandonment, but it's true that he never really ate a legit three-count (including that Andre match obviously, since his shoulder was clearly up), so I suppose you're right that this wouldn't necessarily be a great first time. Giving it further thought, I think you can still basically have him follow Savage back to the dressing room after the slap and have it be a countout loss that doesn't even really get much play on TV and has no real chance of weakening him at all. Just seems really weird to have him pin Akeem in a 1-on-2 as Boss Man just stands on the apron and allows it.

More training, saying your prayers, taking your vitamins and believing in yourself and less asking pointless questions imo!

Don't forget the most important commandmant: Read the goddamn Wrestling Observer, dude!

Following him back makes much more sense.

Fun Easter egg, as an angry Hogan casually buries Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart in quick succession as he demands to know where Randy Savage is.

Hulk looks like he's going to rape Bret. Going for that "passionate" kiss.

Yeah, he probably would have gone for it too, but suddenly he heard Mr. Fuji inexplicably offering him a title shot right then and there.

After reading all that, can you blame everyone for always turning on Hogan? Guy seemed like a real prick.

I'd rather have Vince out and it be some combo of the other guys. Would be a shame to get heyman on there just to slap a muzzle on him

Sting was a different kind of bad. I was talking about Finn with his shoulder, going 15 more minutes, Cena tearing his pec on a hip toss finishing the match and the post match run-in. HHH tearing his quad and then having Jericho put him in the Walls.

They just added a ladder match collection on the Network, and the first one of the group is probably the first ever ladder match from Calgary in the late 70's. It's Jake Roberts vs Big Daddy Ritter (I'll let you figure out who that is). The video is only 8 minutes long and it's worth it to watch just to see the set up they use for the ladder. Good stuff

I met Brutus Beefcake this weekend at Comic Conn. Got his autograph and a Dream Team t-shirt, and then he proceeded to talk to me for about a half hour. Was a really cool guy, isn't a fan of the business the way it is now, but he told me great stories about him and Hogan when they first started out. Was a pretty cool experience. Also, I still have my hair.

A lot of people recognize '98 as the WWE's best year because that was the Wrestlemania where Austin won the belt and they finally beat WCW in the ratings, but I liked '97 much better. You still babyface Austin acting like a heel, but just doing heel stuff to heels instead of faces plus the original DX and the Hart Foundation. I think Rock may have joined the Nation in '97 too, while you also had a great Taker/Mankind feud along with Cactus Jack's first WWE appearance. I feel like both companies peaked in '97.

Taker/Mankind was mostly 1996, but I agree that '97 WWF > '98 WWF.

Never seen such a raucous crowd too, man they really got behind the Harts

Watching the evolution of Austin's explosion to mega-overness for the first time has been a treat

Where did you start? Do you have exposure to any of the the main three from that period?
