Mick Foley instantly comes to mind for me among the living. Seems like a lock to be an awesome person.

JBL or Christian for me.

I have a feeling both seem incredibly boring but would be a lot of fun.

Plus I can ask JBL for investment advice

Great choice.

I would also put Bruno Sammartino up there with wrestlers I'd love to meet. His HOF speech where he discussed his mother hiding the kids in the Italian mountains to protect them from the fascists during WWII (and sneaking into the village to get food at night) was incredible.

Paul Heyman would be phenomenal to have lunch with as well.

Would be awesome. Especially if Noelle would serve us drinks throughout the night

That would be my pick too. Among active wrestlers would be a more difficult pick.

My first impulse from the active roster would be Big Show.

Explain? He seems pretty great in every shoot interview I've seen him do despite being tragically misused for most of his career.

Mark Henry also comes to mind, if nothing else than for his ridiculous longevity (his monster heel push from a few years back remains one of my favorite storylines of the past five years).

You just followed your question with a variation on what would be my answer.

He just seems like a very cool guy, and he was a big part of wrestling's second peak in the modern era. He would have tons of knowledge, tons of stories, and seems like he would be a good time to talk to. I badly wish he would retire and lack any desire to watch him do anything on WWE TV these days unless he wants to retire to the commentary table, but I still think he would be a great "have a beer with" guy.

That said, if Daniel Bryan counted as "active roster," I might pick him just because of the thing where we have old friends in common, since that seems like it could be an easier and more organic conversation than talking to someone I saw as a big star when I was still growing up.

I might have mentioned this in here somewhere, but I "met" Mick when I went to Kings Dominon with my girlfriend for a house show when I was about 17. We were about to go on a Coaster and KD staff member came up and asked if I could get up for a professional wrestler. It was Mick with his son. He was super apologetic to me and my wife and having watched him fall off a HIAC cage not that long ago I was like ummmm, no problem, anytime, etc. Years later I tweeted him that moment and he wrote a DM to me which I thought was pretty awesome.

For me it would be:

Hogan
Savage
Steamboat

Definitely Savage.

Current roster: Sasha because who knows and everyone else I'd just end up arguing about the product with.

Wrestlers I've met: Bubba Ray Duddley a few times. Always the same bar. Had two short conversations with him. Neither soberly.

I've only met Paul Roma and George The Animal Steele.

Btw George Steele is on LinkedIn and is very active with his fans.

Thank you. definitely a memorable experience.

The funny thing is, this show was headlined by Kane vs. Big Show...The same match they are still doing at house shows 15-16 years later.

For fun, I found the card -

WWF @ Doswell, VA - King's Dominion amusement park - August 5, 1999 (4,364)
Steve Blackman pinned Al Snow with a fisherman's suplex
Test pinned Mideon with the pump handle slam
Hardcore Holly defeated Gangrel
WWF Intercontinental & European Champion D-Lo Brown pinned Jeff Jarrett with the Sky High
Mankind defeated WWF Hardcore Champion the Big Bossman in a non-title match with the Mandible Claw
The Godfather & Val Venis defeated Darren Drozdov & Albert following the Money Shot
WWF Women's Champion Ivory pinned Tori with her feet on the ropes
WWF Tag Team Champions the Acolytes defeated Matt & Jeff Hardy and Edge & Christian in an elimination match; Christian pinned Matt with a reverse DDT; Edge & Christian were eliminated after the outside interference of Gangrel
Kane defeated the Big Show (w/ Hardcore Holly) via disqualification when Holly interfered

Speaking of Eddie. 10 years to the day (11/13), Eddie died . I just finished JBL vs Eddie from JD 04 and didn't even realize before I watched it. ****3/4 for that. Great personal match there.

After finishing Souled Out 2000 a month or so ago, I decided in a moment of boredom to watch the next ppv, SuperBrawl 2000.

On this ppv is a match between Big Al (whoever the **** he is) and Tank Abbott...................in a jacket on a pole match. I guess they figured they could out do Bret/Quebecer a handful of years later. I'd advise everybody to watch this segment (from the 48 minute mark until the 57 minute mark). It's great for all the wrong reasons. The finish is Tank having Al on his shoulders samoan drop style, climbing to the 3rd rope with him and then he ****s up and drops him to the floor. A++. After the match, Tank gets what looks like a knife out of his jacket pocket and puts it to Al's throat, camera cuts away because Benoit and throats. Tenay says it may just be a pair of scissors to his throat. jfc.

So far the event is ****. On this card is also Luger vs. a red and yellow Hogan. Can't wait for that. There's a "death match" between Ric Flair and Terry Funk...jesus. Main event is Jarrett vs. Sid vs. Hall.

Before listening to the latest LF podcast, I decided to watch SummerSlam 1999.

Jeff Jarrett vs. D-Lo: Slightly above ****. Not 4 stars, slightly above poop.
Tag Team Turmoil: Starts with Edge/Xtian vs. Hardys and they get 5 minutes to show that they have great chemistry. Really fun match that also included Viscera/Mideon, Acolytes, and Hardcore/Crash Holly.
Al Snow vs. Big Boss Man: If you're into matches going out of the building and into a bar, this is for you. I'm a huge fan of hardcore wrestling but I hated this match.
Ivory vs. Tori: God no. ****. Heatless garbage.
Ken Shamrock vs. Steve Blackman - Lions Den match: ****. Pewp, not 4 ****ing stars.
Test vs. Shane McMahon - Greenwich Street Fight: Incredibly fun match. Recommended.
Undertaker/Big Show vs. X-Pac/Kane: I was really interested in this match. It was pretty fun. Watching X-Pac getting crushed is always fun. Solid *** match. Taker/Show won the tag titles here...I wonder how the hell they lost them.
The Rock vs. Billy Gunn - Kiss my ass match: ok, what? SummerSlam and we have this match? Billy gets in way to much offense before shockingly losing. The match was pretty good. The pop for Rock before the match is incredible.
SCSA vs. HHH vs. Mankind - Jesse Ventura Special Referee: Another really fun match. Lots of drama. The heat was off the chart. Recommended.

Enjoyable ppv. A solid 8/10.

I see that they threw up a couple of episodes of NWA World Championship Wrestling on the Network. Just one episode from November '85 and one from April '86, so no immediate idea what the selection criteria was, but I'd love it if they added a lot of these.

You may have caught this as they started adding them because there is about 20 up now. The highlight of these shows every week was the Ric Flair promos. I'm looking forward to those

More than that now. It looks like they uploaded all of 1986, as well as late 1985/early 1987. I've got my hands full with doing the MNW thread, but I do aspire to watch this old NWA weekly TV stuff one day.

I've watched the first half of the first episode of NWA WCW 9/26/87. It's pretty cool so far. I really like the idea of that studio. The future Saturday Night studio at Disney World I was never really a fan of. Also, the fans were pretty rabid back in 87. It'd be nice if they upped some more of these from earlier and earlier events like GAB 87 that had the first War Games.

Squash matches galore. It's funny because I listened to the latest LF podcast about Starrcade 83 and they talked about Bugsy McGraw and I had no idea who he was, well here he is. So far there's been RNR's vs. jobbers in a fine squash, Bugsy in a squash, and Sheepherders (Bushwackers) in a squash. The Sheep's used the battering ram that was their finisher in WWF, it wasn't there finish here and I have to say for such a silly move, they pull it off damn well and throw some good impact into it. Tony was the mini-Vince at this point as he remarks "what a move" when he saw the aforementioned Battering Ram.

edit: Apparently the main event is Flair vs. Garvin in a cage from a house show, so that's pretty f'n cool.

I find this really interesting as my dad mostly watched WWF when I got into wrestling at WM III so I'm getting to see some good stuff. From the little I've seen and heard about, I've always thought 80's NWA would be awesome to watch.
