Marked out seeing Shane get out of Tyson's limo when it arrived. Shane wasn't mentioned though so I assume it was his first appearance on the show as part of Tyson's crew.
Some ok advancement in the NAO vs Foley/Funk feud.
Tom Brandi vs Marc Mero - 1998's Kofi vs Dolph, except worse since neither are over. Mero wins, crowd yawns. Goldust attacks Mero after the match and Sable bounces down to the ring to save him.
Tyson and HBK, Tyson and HBK - Things JR never said. That was a very fun angle with them about to go fistacuffs and HBK ripping Tyson's shirt off.
Kama vs Blackman - Nation attacks while Blackman has Kama in an anklelock or some ****. The Rock hits The Rock Bottom for the first time on tv in this attack.
I never knew that Robert Fuller was in the WWF. I loved this guy as Col. Robert Parker in WCW. Unfortunately he has to introduce the newold Jeff Jarrett that goes back to being "Double J" after leaving Cornette last week. Should have put "The Roadie" back with him... Tennessee Lee? oh my ****. **** off. Flash Funk ruins the fun. Have I mentioned I hate Jeff Jarrett?
LOL JR: *Jarrett does figure four* "There's shades of "The Nature Boy"............Buddy Rogers." jfc. A+ delivery if he was going for comedy.
Shockingly, Austin was set-up by Kane for DX.
Kane/Paul promo and sign reads: "OH MY GOD THEY KILLED UNDY" A++. Marked the **** out for Undertaker's return. His promo was also very good.
Really liked how they did Kane/Austin into Austin/DX into Kane/Taker.
Overall, I'm disappointed with the AE so far. Before that episode, I was really only invested in the Austin/HBK rivalry. Now that final segment got me to buy into the Kane/Taker stuff. I'm finding the midcard is way overrated now and the crowd back then really didn't care that much for 90% of the midcarders. Rock, Foley, Shamrock, Owen, HHH seem to be the only midcard guys that are over at all....maybe the NAO.
Im at about the same point in rewatching AE RAWs that you are so Ill use the term "we". I think we are currently in the very very early stages of the AE on RAW, and they havent quite hit their stride yet. I know a lot of people point to Montreal as the beginning of the AE but I think it is the RAW after WM when Austin is champ, Rock is closer to being "The Rock", and DX starts their 2nd generation. It wasnt until this point where I think they started to pull away from WCW, eventhough the ratings wouldnt reflect it for a lot longer than that.

I havent either, and at this point then, I was more of a WCW watcher, but tried to catch both when I could. I will say that you are correct "at the time". Everything did seem better in the moment, but Im curious how it holds up knowing what we know now. I will agree that the midcard (read: cruiserweights and luchadores) was better than a lot of wrestling in my lifetime, but on the whole, in hindsight, I wonder how we will be jaded.
