Tom Brandi vs Marc Mero could be the most uninspiring feud of all time

Yeah . Sadly I remember his face turn thing where he's like, "I'm Tom Brandi, not Sal Sincere" or somebody said it for him. Uninspiring would be the word for it.

I find that having Taker vs HBK at RR is kind of dumb with the whole Taker/Kane feud going on. Why did Taker get this title shot? He lost to HBK in October. I haven't seen any ppvs from 98 so I'm excited to go through those with the RAWs. Even WM I've never seen. Not even SCSA vs HBK.

Austin-HBK at Mania is a good match, but clearly brought down by HBK's back injury. Poor guy was clearly in agony as he worked the match. It was a hell of a gutsy performance just to be able to make it a good match, even if it fell short of the greatness that peak healthy Shawn Michaels and peak healthy Steve Austin could have had.

Love the new (think it's new anyways) "continue watching" thumbnails since I'm very ADD and go back and forth between wrestling and Netflix all the time.

12/29/97 episode: Savio's gang vs DoA. A fans sign says, "stab him". I laughed. I assume it's related to Bruiser Brody and PR. Goldust/Austin opening segment was great as well.

On the third ep now. First segment shows why AE was great. It served three purposes in about 10 minutes or less. NoD has trouble. Furthers Rock vs Shamrock for the Rumble. Furthers the actual Rumble match. If I'm not mistaken this episode is the ep where SCSA stuns Jarrett for no reason and then does his goofy strut. Epic RAW moment for sure.

Loved Cornette's "State of wrestling" address on the 2nd episode. Even mentioning WCW by name. Just more epicness.

edit: can confirm the SCSA/Jarrett thing

I've been watching these too and on that episode Austin came out a few times seemingly at random and stunned whoever was in the ring. Imagine if Cena did that today lol, everyone would be furious but with Austin it was hilarious. I cracked up when he did Jarrett's strut.

Also this. I have to look away.

No doubt. But this fit Austin's scrappy character to a tee.

And yeah the Jim Cornette/NWA angle has been pretty interesting, especially the initial address. Gotta admit I found that angle boring when I was younger so interested to see it again.

Not sure who decided a JR/Cole/Kevin Kelly 3 man announce team was a good idea for the first hour but I hope that changes soon (I just remember it being JR/King the whole time, selective memory I guess).

Yeah, I only remember King/JR for the whole time to. Amazing that Cole has been employed for so long imo.

Oh boy, you guys are gonna hate when Jr goes away with the palsy soon and it's Cole/King v1, which is somehow a ton worse than current Cole/King

So I watched the 1996 Rumble earlier today (the one where Vader debuted) and they had a few randos enter who they referenced as being from various territories - was that all kayfabe, or did they actually have people come in from outside for paychecks? Dunno myself without researching, Bob Holly lasted about 30 so the roster may have just been that shallow at the time

I dont even know of there were any territories left in 1996. It could have been out of work wrestlers who were big in a particular territory, but I will have to go back and watch to get an answer. I doubt they were actual contracted employees and it was kayfabe but I guess anything is possible

Dory Funk Jr. was just a one-off. He was 55. Doug Gilbert never amounted to anything, but was in USWA and WWF kept up a good relationship with them, so USWA ran a battle royale where the winner would get an entry in the Royal Rumble. Takao Omori I know nothing of, but a quick look at his Wiki says he was in AJPW.

I assume that it was a thin roster, yeah. But they also didn't have guys pulling double duty (aside from HHH and Duke Droese battling for #1 and #30 on the pre-show), so they could have pulled off the Rumble pretty easily just with their own guys.

Episode 3 (first RAW of 98) was meh. Stone Cold going through stunning the roster was great. Came out and stunned Mero during his match with Tom Brandi (awful match btw, hopefully end of that feud)...

Ending was something out of today where HBK "confronts" The Undertaker. It was a cool segment, just kinda meh as the main event segment.

Not sure why they started on the 12/22/97 edition of RAW. Most people associate The Montreal Screwjob as the beginning of the AE and if WWE doesn't want to acknowledge that, why not have it be the episode where Vince says that he's done with ******ed gimmicks?

On episode 3, Don King was given a segment at Don King HQ. He was terrific as a hype man. Would've loved to have seen him as a manager for somebody. He can sell a ppv.

4 (go home to RR) is pretty good. While predictable what will happen at the Rumble (even w/o knowing results), the ending is pretty markout worthy. Owen Hart should never ever ever talk. He's just awkward to listen to and his demeanor/tone are terrible. Shamrock/Henry/NoD thing was really cool. omg marked for the surprise entrance at the end of RAW! Stone Cold is GOD.

Surprise entrant:
Spoiler:
Honky

Stone Cold's music hits and he's beaten through the curtain by the NoD and just reminded me of Chappelle saying, "Nobody want to get beat to a soundtrack". No idea why they put his music on for that.

I don't understand why they feel the need to separate the Raws at all. Just leave them all on the there in consecutive date order from the beginning. What's so hard about that?

Im going to guess the storage space needed to keep up 1000+ 90 minute to 2 +hour shows along with everything else they have is just to great.

Im currently watching the 5th episode of the Attitude Era Raws, and its the night after the Royal Rumble. I loved JR shooting on Marc Mero before his match with Tom Brandi

spoilers! lol kidding. At the Rumble match right now. Took a break to watch some Vader vs Sting from Starrcade 92 and SuperBrawl 93. 2 of the best matches in WCW history. I also watched Steiner vs Sid from Starrcade 00...not one of the best matches in history.
