Im just curious, what did you want Jericho to ask him? They are obiviously friends in real life and he appears to one of the really genuine good guys. I just dont know what you really expected from this podcast.

Cena did not come off as genuine in that interview; it seemed like it was almost all work and very little shoot. It seemed like the inteview was planned out to improve Cena's image and especially the image of WWE (putting over Reigns and Vince very hard, them talking about how amazing Cena is in terms of healing, questions designed to show how clean and good Cena is). So I would want more questions that wouldn't receive a worked response, if any exist.

I expected it to be exactly what it was, a work. When Austin interviewed Vince and HHH, there were times where they were visibly uncomfortable, I didn't expect anything like that from this. I did like Cena's answer to the heel question though.

Market forces at work. Why should Vince pay higher wages than he needs to? There isn't a WCW out there bidding up the labour market. TNA are no longer competing for talent having blown their proverbial load on a series of ill-judged investments (i.e. Hogan, Flair, Bischoff etc).

Why should you pay a decent wage to the men and women who work for you when you can drop $97,000,000 on a vanity project like getting your half-witted wife into the US Senate? Vince - baller for life.

Did people who grew up during the Attitude era know it was fake from the beginning? Was such a better experience when I thought it was real.

Thats the thing, I dont know if there really are any skeletons in Cena's closet that would have come up in a podcast like this. From everything that I have ever seen, John Cena comes off as just a great guy. Now I may have missed it, but I have never seen anything to the contrary so other than the drinking stories, there just might not be anything else that you were looking for. Jericho did ask him about PED use, and I think the way he asked implicated himself as a previous user. I dont think asking him about his past "personal" life on the road would have been appropriate in this setting.

Im a 40 year old, but unfortunately it wasnt real for me all that long. One of my mother's good friends when I was younger was a professional wrestler who was in the ring with Buddy Rogers a few times, so I knew the deal at a much younger age than most.

I personally liked it and thought he was genuine. Thought a lot of the questions asked were softballs obv, but thought Cena was honest and genuine in his reply.
I think he is genuinely a positive and optimistic guy and is drinking the vince/wwe koolaid hard. But I honestly think he lives that way and everything I have ever read/heard others say about him reflects that. I think the portion about him doing it for the kids is 100% real, he gets off on it. I think its obviously a bit corny but I absolutely respect him as a person and a professional. His shoot interviews are basically the opposite of a Kevin Nash shoot interview because of who they actually are as people. But they are still shoot interviews and not works.

I was at WM31 and the raw after and the anti Cena chants and sing-a-longs are 1 of the best parts of the show. Even tho I do respect and like him, its really fun to cheer against him. However I think its so cool and obvious to boo him now that its starting to become cliche and he is starting to get some cheers from people who just cheer against the crowd no matter what. Likely the very people who started booing him in the first place.

Yeah my problem was with Jericho and the style of the show. Out of character, Cena has always come off as genuine and likeable to me.

I knew it was fake but it was so good you could just see past it and you'd be sucked in.

For better or worse, I told my little one when she was 8 and interested in wrestling that it was fake but that the moves hurt.

I was a mark until about Wrestlemania VI, which would make sense as I went into high school in 91.

I think I got through the "jealous eyes" edition of The Main Event thinking that it was real, then got woken up to it being a work by the middle of the first weekly Superstars that I watched.

Lols the best thing about not seeing any NWA/WCW at all growing up (apart from some amazing matches obv) is seeing some stars wrestle before they hit the wwf

Just been watching Mean Mark destroy some fools at Capital Combat and COTC

You can tell he would be a big star

El Gigantes appearance cracked me up too, havent seen him "wrestle" yet though

Just got to watch him, Sting and Robocop fend off the 4 horseman throughout the show lulz

Yeah, Robocop was a joke, but there was a great start to that feud with a great promo (meaning well thought out and logical) where the Horsemen turned on Sting. Then he tried to climb the cage in the main event (which ended up being heels vs heels because the Horsemen turned earlier in the show) to get at them, but tore up his knee and ended up missing a good chunk of time. It was one of the early clash of champions around '90 - '91 maybe if you want to go back and watch.

Yep saw that angle Im watching every piece of current network content in order!

I started at 1970 and Im now up to 1990

That Sting doublecross was awesome

Cool to see the crowd marking out at the Horseman constantly making the 4 sign at the camera

They seemed to be heels that had huge amount of fans, which is weird as when growing up I didnt think anyone could root for a heel

When I was growing up I basically only rooted for heels, I was a baby smark.

I grew up (seriously) rooting for underdogs often, which functionally meant jobbers. Loved me some Barry Horowitz. Marked the f out when the 123 Kid pinned Razor.

Same. This mentality is also what led to me rooting for heels as a kid. I recognized they were often the underdogs. To this day, I still do the same. I watched the NCAA tourney just waiting to see Kentucky lose and it happened and I couldn't have been happier . Sting was my favorite back when I was 10-13ish but I always rooted against him when he was against Vader, Cactus, Rude, etc..
