Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

I'm surprised by media reports that WWE Network will carry all twelve pay-per-view events.

If I'm understanding it correctly, this means for the subscription price of $9.99/month, you'll get that month's PPV in addition to other content. That seems like an insanely good deal for any WWE fan.

How is this working economically for the WWE? What % of PPV sales price do they typically get today?

nobody buys PPVs. even if the subscription rate is absurdly low they will be printing money.

A quick Google search shows recent WrestleMania PPVs got over 1,000,000 PPV buys and minor PPVs got over 200,000.

I was extremely surprised to hear that as well. Being that the initial fee will be $60 (you're paying for 6 months) you are essentially buying one PPV per subscription period and the rest is free. There's got to be a catch....

Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

Someone was saying break even is around 500'000 subs world wide (its launching US only atm).

It is definitely insanely good value just for the past PPVs with every single WWF, WCE, ECW and WWE event available on demand, let alone the new ones you get every month.

Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

some quick math: they claim to have 15 million viewers per week, let's call that 5 million households. if they can get half of those to subscribe (which seems reasonable given how awesome this deal is), they'll effectively be getting 2.5m ppv buys per month at $10 a pop, instead of 200,000 at $45. looks like they'll make less on wrestlemania but more than make up for it through the rest of the year.

On a per ppv basis they will lose out on wm but they will more than make up for it considering the lackluster sales on the other 11

Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

Last year (using TLC 2012 numbers) they had 2.564M PPV buys not counting WM and 1.048M for WM, after counting the cable companies cut that is approx $80million for WWE in the year. Now if around 690k signup for the whole year that would be about the same $80million, not counting how much of the $10 goes to keeping the network running and such but it also doesn't count ad revenue.

And since they had 1m in WM sales for $60, 1million people paying $120 for the whole year isn't that farfetched.

Rumble gets about half a million buys and SummerSlam has been in the low 300ks recently. The rest do about 150-200k.

Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

Isn't there a 6 month minimum subscription? So it's really $60 for 6 months and that gets what it gets, however math works. As opposed to just straight making $10 per PPV. Pretty much insures against the LK.J-types who rage-quit every 8 weeks or abandon until football is over.

Id venture quite a bit of those are international buys (and arent some of those cheaper than the 60 bucks?). I think this idea is very good for them in the US market where theyre losing views and buys every year iirc.

Im not sure about some of the figures people are throwing out ITT, but I think with ads it'll be a profitable venture. Besides, theyre gonna run this thing into the ground if they just keep doing the same **** over and over again watching it tank. Props to them for starting something new with a whole new model

Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

what everyone wants to know is - how many different features will include 'dx on a tank'??

the hands-down most important moment of the 20th century will be part of the monday night war features, and likely that very episode of raw and the dozen or so dvds it's already been put on

I hope every Nitro from Hulk Hogan turning heel in 1996 to 1999 is on. I'll watch every single one.

It's $10 a month but you have to make a 6 month commitment.

And for Attitude Era stuff there'll be a warning.

it's always funny to me that they followed up bash at the beach 96 with a series of nitros at disney/mgm with a front row literally made up of fat old retirees in mickey mouse shirts falling asleep during the show

I want to say I remember hearing an interview w/Bischoff saying they got Disney/MGM to pay them pretty handsomely for those tapings. I could be wrong, though. Also, in a typical arena, I don't think the night where they threw Rey Mysterio, Jr. into the side of a trailer would have had the same effect.

I also remember the classic Rey/Malenko match from MGM where there are nothing but old fogeys about 5 feet from the ring and there are all sorts of high risk maneuvers that could've easily taken a retiree out.

Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

You have to think that alot of people will get the Network when its released and by having 6 month subscriptions, it all but guarantees that the majority of people will have their subscription coming to an end just before wrestlemania every year. Good business thinking by WWE as if you plan on getting Wrestlemania its more than worth your while just getting the 6 month subscription.

I don't watch a ton any more but for $10 a month I'll do it. Every new ppv + get to go back to old stuff will be cool.

My understanding is that not everything will be available at the one time. Content will change from month to month. I could be wrong but that's how I read it.

Edit: I'm wrong. Says all ppvs will be available which is worth the price alone but doesn't say anything about classic nitros or Raws.

I think theyre just trying to get the jumpstart on TV of the future aka everything being a la carte. They can take the PPV hit if they think they can get 1-2 mil + subscribers in perpetuity

I read it starts out with 1,500 hours worth of stuff.
