Much better than the umpteen ADR vs Kalisto matches where they would always do the "Del Rio pulls off Kalisto's mask" spot. But, because Kalisto's mask is only velcroed on, his mask would always come off, so ADR had to struggle to "attempt" to take the mask off.

I can understand that happening once. But why try that spot again?

Speaking of Gran Metallik, apparently there are reports that both he and Ibushi have signed "NXT-level" deals. And next up are Zach Sabre Jr., Cedrick Alexander, Jaxk Gallagher, and a few others. I guess they will have no problem replenishing the NXT roster after it gets raided tomorrow night

Do these deals have a clause for when they get to the main roster ?

In the past wrestlers on NXT deals who got called up to the main roster got entirely new deals when they did.

Heard tons about zach sabre jr., saw him for the first time tonight and was extremely disappointed. Everything about him sucked.

Haven't seen this yet but I don't think you can judge somebody off one match. He has a style that is rarely used though so you wouldn't be the only one who doesn't like him.

I absolutely agree with every sentiment about this. Dux was like a million times better in my opinion.

Raul Mendoza also got hosed, he was the most impressive guy I've seen this entire tourney so far.

Reading around the reviews of that Sabre match are mostly positive talking about what a fantastic display of technical wrestling that was by Sabre, so I'm just gonna have to LOL Indy Wrestling Fan again.

Will break it down a little further

-nothing he did looked real. Every move and hold was applied in a way that made it look like the opponent could've easily broke or avoided it. Nothing looked like it hurt, there was no struggle. It required a tremendous suspension of disbelief.

-his selling was awful and cartoonish. He either completely no sold the opponents offense or came out of it looking like wyle e coyote

-no charisma whatsoever

-this usually never bothers me but his physique is terrible. Size isn't important but I think the guys should at least resemble athletes. He looked more like the braun strowman jobber than anyone else on the roster.

And this is coming from someone who loves smaller more technical wrestlers like malenko and Bryan and plenty of other Indy types too

My first time seeing Sabre after hearing tons of good things. I chalked up his match as, first round, just win and advance, don't have to show every trick in the book.

haven't watched this match yet. Only match with him ive seen is the one earlier this year with Angle. It was pretty ok but didn't blow me away. Maybe check that one out and see how it compares.

Melzter said ZBJ is on the same level Bryan and Angle which I don't agree with. No doubt he is a good wrestler but his style will never get over with a mainstream crowd. Submission after submission after submission with a few weak striking here and there isn't going to keep a lot of crowds hot.

Not to mention his look is terrible, he doesn't seem to know what weights are and he has no charisma or ability to show emotion.

When Meltzer is just giving his own preference he doesn't care about what gets over with mainstream crowds or charisma or look. If he was arguing that Sabre was going to be a big star on the level of Bryan and Angle, that is absurd.

I'll try and find the tweet when I've got time but I'm pretty sure he was just going on in ring style alone, it was in response to someone directly asking him about it. Even without the mic skills, Bryan and Angle would win most crowds over with their style alone, I don't think ZBJ's would even come close. He can definitely be exciting at times but not in the special way he gets credit for.

Meltzer seems to think in ring ability/style is subjective, so that sounds like a personal preference based statement.

Funny thing is, last time I heard about Sabre before the CWC was some fans complaining Meltzer doesn't talk about Sabre enough even though Sabre always does great in the Observer awards voting.

On the subject of this weeks episode, Brian Kendrick is awesome. His WWE singles gimmick was dumb but I found it funny and his TNA run was entertaining.

For those who don't know, Bryan Danielson/Daniel Bryan won the Best Technical wrestler award 9 years in a row (2005 through 2013). When he retired, the award was renamed the Bryan Danielson award.

Sabre won that award the last two years.

I agree that his style won't be nearly as over as Ibushi's (the other CWC favorite).

The only other match I've seen of his is the one against Nakamura. It's a much better match. But of course it's a 20+ minute match against one of the best wrestlers in the world. You probably should use more than a single glorified squash match to evaluate him:
