I haven't really followed any of the run-up to this, but I thought I would start its own thread in case people are watching. Wanted to give it a shot.

Four first-round matches tonight.

Starting to get the sense that "drink every time Daniel Bryan says 'jet lag'" is a good foundation for a drinking game.

he seemed so bad on commentary during that match, saying jet lag over and over and over

Alexander showed more charisma in 2 minutes than Apollo has shown in 2 months

Yep. I like Apollo okay, but Alexander does have a personality that jumps off the screen.

I deduct points from Alexander for doing that Dean Ambrose kick-start off the corner nonsense. Still, he's been the standout tonight.

Mauro needs to stop announcing that the ending spot was the ending spot before the pin is counted. He's calling the move that results in a three-count way differently than he's calling the near-fall spots.

Ibushi was great. Maluta was really pretty great too, liked him enough that I would have liked to see him get a first-round win elsewhere in the bracket (he was better than either guy in the second match tonight).

Anyway, didn't knock my socks off but I liked it. I'll try to remember to watch again next week.

Really, really enjoyed this. Treat the tournament like a legitimate sporting event, have wins and losses matter, and imagine that, people will be interested.

Kota was poised to take Shinsuke's spot in NJPW as the #3 guy after he left for WWE in February. He "retired" because he lost his smile, seriously. He said wrestling wasn't fun anymore and now runs his own small promotion/training school. He's absolutely amazing and has at least ten matches worth seeking out.

His school has the greatest name ever.

Ibushi at the same time was the top guy in the second promotion in Japan. The one where they wrestle children and dolls.

^^ And that company has this glorious championship, which, if you have been keeping track, has somehow made it to the states where Joey Ryan and his independent wrestling colleagues and Lucha Underground guys has been contending over it.

Enjoyed the first ep. Great to see WWE try something different when it comes to presentation as well.

Just started this. Matches are fun, but so far they just sort of end on random moves that seem like all the other moves.

Still enjoying it, though.

Sounds very accurate to me. DDT is a very weird promotion.

Assuming you just mean taping results before the show actually hits the Network, I would think so.

????? I just watched the last match again about an hour ago and didn't notice. Now I'm going to have to watch again for this.

Sorry was a bad typo. He started to lose his mask during the pin. Than as soon as the fall is counts and it's clear 20 seconds or more later
