Found this little paragraph from this week's WON I found on the reddit SquaredCircle. Usually, I found myself not agreeing with Meltzer 100% for whatever reasons, but this paragraph I found myself saying "Yes! He's on the money with everything here, imo."

Quote:
WON: Meltzer "The other key is with the network and the current business model with the lack of true superstars and the brand being the draw, with John Cena as the only proven exception and he’s not around, then it really doesn’t matter about things like booking and talent selection. The entire Roman Reigns controversy, since the fans who boo Reigns the most are believed to be the first people who buy tickets to see WWE, pretty much exemplifies the change. It means the company has little to no economic incentive to play to its audience, or listen to its audience. If its audience makes it clear they like or dislike someone, the company can look at its business numbers, see no declines, or rationalize the declines that do occur (like in TV ratings) as metrics that don’t mean anything anymore, then exactly what is the incentive of listening to the fans who buy tickets first if they keep buying tickets no matter what?"

"They can then come to the conclusion that the noise of the crowd and who they want or don’t want on TV doesn’t reflect the feelings of the majority of the fans. If they do internal polls and they indicate fans wanting something different than they are pushing, they can rationalize that on them being “Internet fans,” with the idea that’s a small percentage of the audience that isn’t indicative of the masses and thus not worth listening to. And in fairness, when people reacting a certain way are still buying tickets and network subscriptions, there is a strong argument that viewpoint isn’t wrong. Indeed, the entire concept of booking, manipulating the audience into wanting to see something and increase business, and bad booking then hurts business, is antiquated in WWE. Both have almost no effect on business other than occasional hot-shotting of bringing back a name from the past or changing around talent can lead to short-term minor changes in ratings. Ironically, that’s only the case with WWE, as those things do make a difference with other wrestling companies, and when it comes to Bellator and UFC, they seem too make as much if not more of a difference now than ever before."

And that's exactly what Vince has wanted since at least 1996, when you can hear him saying things along those lines during the Wrestlemania 12 Bret-Shawn Ironman match. (It's pretty early, and Lawler actually calls what Vince is saying "stupid.")

The whole Network concept was designed to lead to this point. I'm sure a ton of the complainers are Network subscribers, if only to access the tape library. They have no power at all as long as they continue to want (and pay for) that access.

This was probably the first time I'd listened to anything Dave has said in 3+ months but he's pretty on the money here as well wrt Jinder's push:

He basically says that the booking sucks and is akin to JBL's ascent and R-Truth's Capital Punishment main event. He says the booking doesn't matter since the ppv's in Chicago and it's probably already close to sold out and was prior to any matches being announced so they're risking absolutely nothing by having Jinder go after the belt.

Jinders only getting pushed because of WWEs recebt expansion in India, and they need a face to put with it.

Also though, why not?

I get that he's been a hapless jobber but that dude has worked his ass off to get that physique. I'm sure he's taking some form of illegal substance, but he cant be doing too much because there is no way they're busting Roman Reigns in the middle of a major storyline and protecting JINDER MAHAL.

He can cut a pretty decent promo and can put on a solid hard hitting match with the right guy, so why not. The only problem with it really is they didnt have any transition period where he actually shows he can win matches before this hot shot, but it sends a pretty good message IMO.

If that's true, wouldn't at all be surprised if NJPW actually does ban headbutts. Which they should.

Man, that sucks. The dude was really starting to shine as a main event-like player/star to NJPW. Great matches. Great intensity. Internet crowd loves him, live crowds got behind him. Finally got an IWGP heavyweight title shot for the first time since his return in 2012. Heck, his match with Okada main-evented a sold-out Sumo Hall show (10,200-ish people), with a not-too stellar undercard, making it the largest non-G1 Climax finals crowd that NJPW had in 15 years and that particular crowd really wanted him to win that title.

My first impression of the guy was that he reminded me of Benoit and I was hoping that he would not end up like Benoit or Bryan or develop any negative traits of those guys. I guess I was wrong.

Read somewhere last night that Vince hates the Broken Matt gimmick, had no intention of using it, actually the writers who are trying to convince him and he may be coming around due to all the DELETE chants. Still thinks Jeff Hardy = Top Guy.

Seems like an odd conclusion to reach when you notice that Matt has been dropping hints of the broken character since he started. In addition the second sentence Michael Cole used when announcing the return of the Hardys at WM contained the word "broken"

I'd be shocked if Brock holds to WM. Absolutely shocked. He's going to have to defend it, let's say at the absolute minimum 5-7 times between now and then. Do they even have that many viable baby face contenders (that they are willing to feed to Lesnar)?

I don't mind Lesnar as champ because over the last few years, aside from HHH, he's the only heel champion booked as a non-coward I can remember. I think he makes the title feel important.

I'd be shocked if he defended it/wrestled anywhere on TV but Summerslam, Survivor Series and Wrestlemania

There was a fake story going around that Sunny claimed Seth Rollins gave her an STD, which would have brought up a number of fake questions I'm glad don't need to be answered now. It was pretty doubtful that 2017 Rollins would have had anything to do with 2017 Sunny in the first place.

According to Sportskeeda.com, John Cena proposing to Nikki Bella at WrestleMania 33 drastically changed original plans for the PPV.

As we noted several months before WrestleMania 33, the plan in WWE was to have John Cena vs The Undertaker take place at ‘Mania in Orlando, however that match ended up being scrapped in favor of Nikki Bella and John Cena vs The Miz and Maryse, and The Undertaker vs Roman Reigns.

The idea for Cena to propose to Nikki Bella actually came from WWE Exec Kevin Dunn, who pitched it to Vince McMahon. McMahon then spent several weeks pitching the idea to Cena, and it’s being said Cena was originally not a fan of the idea. When Cena finally agreed to do the proposal, he was given a brief WWE Title run which ended when Bray Wyatt won the Title at WWE Elimination Chamber. Initial Royal Rumble plans called for AJ Styles to drop the title to The Undertaker, who would then drop the title back to Styles at Elimination Chamber. Cena was originally supposed to eliminate The Dead Man from the chamber match, setting up their WrestleMania 33 bout.
If this is true then the original plan sounds so much better than what we got.

All I ever know about Kevin Dunn is how much Cornette hates him. But since Russo is the other primary Cornette target, I've always just taken his word for it on Dunn.
