Just bought a book for Big Wally for Christmas called "The History of Stampede Wrestling". I'm looking forward to reading it myself after he is finished, but by all accounts, it is a fantastic book.

Attitude Era dvd finally upped on xwt . Can't wait to watch tomorrow. I've been watching all the RAWs/SDs/PPVs from 2001 and they're awesome. I think half the reason it's so good is because the crowd actually cares about the characters and go nuts for everything. Even RTC vs Hardys get a reaction which would be impossible today.

my feelings on the attitude era dvd via some random amazon comment:

I had very high hopes for this release, especially after last years holiday release for Stone Cold. I am pretty sad to say this release is a major letdown. To have a documentry on the most exciting era of wrestling ever at a shallow runtime of 57 minutes is a joke. I can tell this product was rushed with little planning. The documentry was not very good at all. Did not explain much, just some random attitude era clips.
the dvd did explain the idea of Mae's "hand birth".

^^ Wow, if that does suck if what you say was true, and the WWE is so more than capbable of delivering top-notch documentaries like CM Punk's (though he had great creative reign on this one).

i've been laid up at home recovering from kidney problems, and i found a lot of wrestling documentary shows "in the forest" and watched them - just the documentary parts, not all the discfuls of matches. stone cold bottom line (released last year) was fantastic - 2.5 hours covering everything in his career, including plenty of stuff i'd never heard of before. really put together well, and austin is a great storyteller.

and yes, the recently released attitude era dvd has a documentary that clocks in under an hour. and i'm just sick of dx on a tank being touted as something relevant. if you were even just a casual fan during 96-01, you won't get much of anything out of that one or the new nwo one.

jim cornette - youshoot, lost questions, timeline, guest booker - find these any way you can if you haven't seen them. i can't recommend them highly enough; corny is the unquestioned lord and master of the shoot interview. the guy is so entertaining and his recall is unbelievable.

Oh, come on "Did you pay for these tickets?" "Hell no, I got'em for free!" never gets old. But I agree, I've never looked at is as the big moment WWE seems to think it was/is.

Got the 3 DVD set of WWE The Legend of Stone Cold Steve Austin. I am almost through the 2nd DVD and really like the promo he did at ECW. I enjoyed seeing his matches when he was Stunning Steve Austin as well.

Received the Rise and Fall of WCW for Christmas. I knew WCW was messed up near the end, but had no idea it was that messed up. Kevin Nash as booker? LOL All the messed up contracts that were given out, Vince Russo, etc.

nWo DVD was very bad. very, very rushed a la the Attitude Era DVD. also, of all of the footage they had they somehow chose to include the "new world organization" botch and the "look at the adjective, play" botch? and i am still not used to Dusty not talking in DustyVoice no matter how many of these things I watch.

Falls Count Anywhere DVDs are ****ing awesome. Going to watch the ECW ones that were added to Netflix instant shortly.

"I Like to Hurt People" is a personal favorite of mine. Great old Big Time wrestling footage from Detroit. Funk Brothers taking on Shiek and Abby. I got my screen name from that movie.
Also check out the first "Hulkamania" video. Hogan vs Dr. D. David Schultz in a bloodbath in Minneapolis is worth the price alone.

+1 to cornette. i has a job and money (thinly veiled barg) so i just straight bought the jim cornette guest booker stream for 20 bucks. it contains some clips that are out there free on youtube but he is just nails. so so so good. an amazing interview. i thought it got a little weaker toward the end but the guy can just talk his ass off. amazing interview. this was a must watch, and i'm going to watch the others too.

the 3 hour bam bam shoot is pretty good. he just came off as a super down to earth guy. shame.

Watched "The Last of McGuinness". Goes through his 33 (pretty sure about that) day retirement tour. It's very emotional and depressing. It's mostly him being bitter. He talks down about himself whether he's alone or with somebody which is really annoying because it sounds like he just wants somebody to say "you're not a failure". If I didn't know he was still alive I might think that before the video ends he commits suicide (yes, it's that bad). Can't say it was to interesting since I found myself wanting to turn it off a few times. It's a shame that he didn't make it to the E with Bryan but he put on a few classics with Bryan alone and gave me one of my favorite matches that was vs. Austin Aries when he suffered a concussion.

Maybe he genuinely thinks he is a failure? I thought they were going to go more into specifics about his health issues and WWE. He has hepatitis right?

He does think he's a failure, mentions that his life was all for nothing, and jokes that he should commit suicide because he realizes how emo he's being. He had a somewhat complicated case of hepatitis B which was actually cured a month after TNA fired him. Ironically, he got a text from Bryan Danielson the day after his last match with Bryan letting him know that he had just won the WHC.

Just finished "Tributes - Remembering Some of the World's Greatest Wrestlers" by Dave Meltzer

While it was obviously a depressing book, it was also a very good history of the sport. I didn't realize it until recently, but I really enjoy reading about when wrestling was broken into different territories.

I don't know much about Meltzer, believe it or not, so I guess it was cool reading his little biography at the end. I guess opinions differ greatly on Meltzer, but he seems to genuinely love the sport, writing about it since he was 10.

But in the end, most of these deaths occurred during like a 10 year period (1990-2000) and the oldest person chronicled was like 75, with most of them being about half that age, very depressing. Also depressing to note that wrestlers of a young age still seem to be dropping at about the same rate, leaving me to wonder what, if anything has really changed about professional wrestling. I love wrestling, and don't mean to be all soap boxy, just a observation/thought I've been thinking about lately.
