TLF on OTE 99 was very good*. It had a very different feel to it, obviously. It can be summed up in three words: terrifying, saddening, and maddening. When they read from Diana's book, you can just feel being up there with him, and it's so ****ing dark and disturbing. I shed a few tears during the show. My wife listened to the first 30 minutes and then asked me to turn it off because she was just so disturbed by the whole incident. What a totally unnecessary thing to do (the stunt, not the podcast).

*I only listened until the deep dive portion because I fell asleep

They ask at the beginning of the podcast which wrestler dying hit you hardest. So I'm curious with you guys, which hit you hardest. For me, it was Dusty, which is odd because today is exactly one year from when he died. My wife said Benoit before the details came out as we were watching back then and watched that RAW.

Benoit for sure before the details came out. Related to him a lot in terms of not being given a chance at a lot of things in life due to not having the right look, playing politics, and working my ass off to get my foot in the door.

Certainly was Owen for me. Was my favorite, seemed genuine and heartfelt that everyone legitimately loved him and were crushed by his passing. Most of all, I'll never not be gutted by these images given that he was less than two years from being gone.

With other wrestling deaths, there's been an unfortunate desensitization where we've become less and less shocked when they die too young. This hadn't set in yet when Owen passed.

Macho Man for me, just over 5 years ago now. I still miss him , but I always credit his death to bringing me back to wrestling (I tuned in for the Macho Man tribute on Raw and it kept me hooked just long enough to experience Summer of Punk).

I continue to feel a strong ambivalence toward Benoit. The more we learn about CTE, the less I feel he was completely culpable for what happened. I don't know that WWE has any other play than to completely ignore his existence, but I'm starting to view the whole tragedy more in terms of an awful car wreck (maybe drunk driver?) and less like an OJ equivalent.

I would probably feel likewise if there wasn't a history, but Nancy Benoit having alleged domestic violence about Chris Benoit four years before the tragedy, and gotten a protective order, doesn't leave me as much room to extend that much benefit of the doubt his way. That's not to say that CTE didn't have a part, but I'm pretty resistant to a description that reduces it too far in the direction of it just being something that happened to him.

I probably have to go way back to 1984 for David Von Erich.

I was still young enough to be a mark most of the time. And, of course, young deaths in wrestling wasn't a thing back then.

It was only worse that David was at his most popular and probably had just entered the prime of his career.

Agreed. The podcast was handled very well. There were a couple times where I thought JP was going to go overboard, but Jack was able to reign him in before that happened. I feel like maybe they stopped early on and had a quick chat on how they were going to do it, because JP got in line rather quickly.

I laughed pretty hard at
Jack: "I am absolutely horrified right now about you doing the Vince voice in this moment."
<awkward pause>
JP: "I'm actually pretty scared myself."

The only thing I found offensive from JP was this line: Did The Godfather still get to go to the pay window?

However, the conversation that followed between Jack and Lapsed Vince was hilarious with Vince not sure what to do since Godfather was supposed to lose.

I was never actually offended during the show, it just felt like they were getting close to that point, but were able to reel it in.

As for that line, the funny thing is that I thought the exact thing about 45 seconds prior to him saying that

My favorite part was when they were talking about meeting The Rock so they could ask him a question about that night

Just randomly watched Pat Patterson's biography because it was suggested on YT. People should watch. It's great stuff.

The following match is brought up in the doc and it's highly recommended. I saw it for the first time last year and it's a bloody violent brawl at MSG. Won MotY in 1981.

I got around to Daniel Bryan's book the past couple of days, hammering through most of it during a travel day today. I co-sign with Burdz that it was pretty dull. It was readable enough that I was never particularly tempted to quit on it, but I learned very little that I didn't already know simply from following him during his WWE career.

I mentioned this match in another thread a long time ago. I had mentioned that it was the bloodiest blade job I had ever seen. Then someone, it may have been you, directed me to watch the JBL/Eddie Guerrero match from a PPV, and it blew this away. With that said it is still pretty bloody and a good match

I have been looking forward to Jim Ross's book coming out for over a year, and it finally did yesterday. In typical ChachiArcola style, I procrastinated on pre ordering the book, so I went to buy it today. I decided to go the e-book route for a few reasons, one of them being price. I figured the e-book would be cheaper for obvious reasons, however when I went to buy it, they wanted $24.99 for it. I can get the hardcover for $15.00 and I signed copy for $25.00.

Is it normal for the e-book version to be the same price or more expensive than the hard copy version?

Amazon sells the Kindle version for $14 and the hardcover for just over $15 FWIW.

Didn't realize there had been fallout between the two, but it's hard for my snap-reaction to be anything but to think that Beefcake is an ingrate if he's cashing in by turning on Hogan after cashing in for so many years by kissing Hogan's ass.

I really enjoyed the book, and I highly recommend it. There are some stories that I have heard him tell before, but other than that it’s great
