So how does this work? It looks like it's basically a year behind? Is there anywhere I can just watch the 2014 Seibu Dome show even if its without the english commentary right now?

Throwing this here instead of bumping the puro thread:

I've had a 90's AJPW channel for 3 years now. I just uploaded like 1k videos and never paid any attention to it. Looking now, it's mindboggling to me how decent it is. Have nearly 900k views total. Some weird stats:

This one may not be weird: 76% of my views are from Japan
4,062,032 minutes watched which is 2,821 days worth of footage watched
Weirdest stat: There's a huge viewing spike every June 3rd. The anniversary of Kawada vs Misawa. Last year on 6/3, the channel was watched for 46 hours. The year before, 25 hours. The closest any day has to 25 hours is only five and a half hours. Conclusion: This match is god like in Japan and people whip it out every year in celebration.

My favorite match from the tournament was Honma vs Shibata. If you watch only one match, it should be Okada vs Nakamura but make sure to check out Honma/Shibata.

Also, Nagata vs Nakamura is on par with Honma/Shibata. I'm not sure why it's not listed but it's on day 4 and got ****1/2 stars

I just watched this one. Great match, although I found the English commentator tilting af. Wish I watched the Japanese version instead.

Apparently Gordon Solie announced some Japanese matches in the 90s in something similar to what goes on AXS TV now, but I've never seen any.

I gave this one MotY last year. ***** ****ing match. They tried to keep them apart for so long before giving the inevitable match. Kept them in the same stable (Chaos) since Okada redebuted on 1/4/12. Then on two days notice they drew 35k fans. Quite the feat imo. They actually played off of this match in the subsequent title match between Okada and Tanahashi on 1/4 of this year.

Nice. Did not realize the backstory there. Thanks.

Re: attendance, the announcer also said it was a terrible typhoon / storm thing happening even that people had to fight through to get there.

Yeah, there was a storm and part of the stadium is open/not retractable so that kept some people away. But, yes, it's called a dome for some reason. The bleachers high up do get wet, though. Probably kept a lot of people from buying tickets. Meltzer said that NJPW viewed that event as a failure. idk how you can view 35k people on two days notice in a major storm as a failure. Wish they'd put the finals in there again this year but it doesn't look like that's happening.

Holy **** that was one of the best matches Ive ever seen. I have never really watched much Japanese wrestling, so my question is, is all NJPW so damn stiff? They were really laying it in there
Wrestle Kingdom 9 Saturday/Sunday Quote

They lay back at house shows. The ppvs and tournaments they do lay into each other with reckless abandon. The only time I've ever seen them go < 100% ahead was the first two days of the G-1 in 2013 which were two terrible shows (even though the ME of night two was easily top 5 of year for any promotion) and that's just because it was the beginning of a 12 day tournament.

If you ever go back and watch 90's AJPW or anything from NOAH, you'll see that Japanese wrestling is just stiff. It's a reason why Vader was so stiff in his heyday.

edit: NJPW usually has at least one house show per month that they air. Compare the two and it's night and day. Not as stiff and they're all tag matches so not even in the ring half as long either.

Somehow I ended up on the profightdb 5* match list. There I found out that NJPW had a 5* match in February between Ishii and Honma. I really have fallen out keeping up with wrestling outside of this forum a fair bit because of rl stuff and doing things that aren't watching wrestling. I haven't seen it but I'm sure if you want to see a match that is ungodly stiff, you should watch that match. Surely on DM. I'll definitely get around to it today.

This was pretty good at giving some basics on NJPW.

New Japan vs ROH wrestlers happened at War of the Worlds recently. Some of the matches are around on ROH's Youtube channel and can be accessed elsewhere probably. The ROH guys tend to really work their ass off because they want to get some appearances in New Japan where they can make more money than in ROH. Nakamura was getting better reactions than anybody of course. I think he's passed Muta as the Japanese wrestler most popular among Americans ever (that I can recall).

I been keeping up with the RATINGS~!~!!~!!!~ of matches and nothing's really seemed too good so I haven't bothered. Also, AJ is champion (I think...I know he beat Tanahashi in February anyhow) and him as champion with BC interfering every match is lame sauce.

Wanted to bump this to let people know that NJPW World is having another free trial period from July 8 to 17. It's pretty much the only wrestling I'm currently keeping up with and has been fantastic.

Okada/Styles definitely getting great reviews. Went back and looked through a star ratings thread and saw some 5* up there for that match. Definitely need to check it out soon. Something that will get me back in the mood for NJPW is the G-1. Coming off what Meltzer called the greatest tournament of all time back in 2013, NJPW topped it with it's 2014 version, and in a bit more than a week the 2015 edition begins. The participants:

A Block:
Togi Makabe
Hiroshi Tenzan
Toru Yano
Doc Gallows
Bad Luck Fale
Tetsuya Naito
Katsuyori Shibata
Kota Ibushi
Hiroshi Tanahashi
AJ Styles

B Block:
Hirooki Goto
Satoshi Kojima
Yuji Nagata
Tomoaki Honma
Michael Elgin
Karl Anderson
Yujiro Takahashi
Tomohiro Ishii
Shinsuke Nakamura
Kazuchika Okada

I'm very surprised the only outside person they've brought in is Elgin (and he is awful). It's nice to see they've made the tournament about a month now as injuries have hurt them the past two years when it was 2 weeks and then 3 weeks. Both brackets look great with lots of MOTYC coming up as has happened the past two years.

Kind of sucks that they can't really find (or refuse to) another top person so it seems that once again that Okada/Nakamura/Tanahashi will win it with an outside chance of AJ (this will never happen as he won't ever main event Tokyo Dome. guess it's possible if they have him lose briefcase before then).

Not really sure who to pick as a prediction which is great since it's not superobvious like WWE's lol Cena wins. I'd like to see Shibata face Nakamura in the finals with Nakamura going over. It does seem like Nakamura should win the B block as it makes no sense for Okada to be in the final but NJ is good at keeping people on their toes so I wouldn't be shocked to see Okada in the final.

For some reason I thought it started on the 28th. It starts in a few hours

Starting off with a bang!

Tanahashi vs Ibushi and AJ vs Shibata. Both should bring the house down.
