Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

Sasha Banks this week on Talk is Jericho. Interview starts about 19 minutes in. Sort of wish some of these guests would be on Austin's podcast, but at least Jericho is letting his guests shine as opposed to trying to take the spotlight like some podcasters.

This week's Ric Flair podcast is listed by my podcast player as being 1 GB. I guess someone forgot to compress it to MP3. Anyone know how to contact them to get them to upload the correct version? It's just too large to download right now.

Mine's 82.5 MB, see if it's fixed now?

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

This week's Cheap Heat:

"Should we talk about Summerslam, NXT, or my celebrity softball game?"

"Let's start with NXT and just gloss over the non-wrestling suff."

"OK."

Then spends the next 16 minutes talking about non-wrestling stuff. WTF?!

Bischoff on Flair's podcast this week is great. Worth it just for the Rick Rude stories.

Didn't know he had a podcast. He talks about wrestling quite a bit on the Sam Roberts show. Gets some good guests from time to time to. I'm gonna have to check it out.

I just discovered this because it was mentioned in another thread. If you havent heard this, I highly recommend it. Last year they reviewed every Wrestlemania leading up to WM 31. When I saw this I noticed that they go in excess of 4 hours per podcast and thought WTF! But after listening to WM 1, its well worth it. Im looking forward to the next one.

Alright, I'm giving this Lapsed Fan thing a shot. 45 minutes into episode 1 (SummerSlam 91) and I'm hooked. These guys are great.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

Lapsed Fan thoughts. I'm in the middle of SummerSlam '93 (on the verge of the 30 WMs) but have listened to most of the rest, only skipping a couple of them because I hadn't seen the show, and after attempting one episode of an old WCW show that I haven't seen, I just didn't enjoy it as much. But that only means I've skipped 3-4 of them, and otherwise they've been in heavy rotation for me.

While it's terribly annoying when they go into hysterical laughter over something that isn't funny to me, their hit rate in terms of stuff that makes me laugh out loud right along with them is high enough that I can easily forgive it. I'm amazed at the number of times I laugh right along with them when they pluck out a certain throwaway line from a PPV that struck them funny that I probably wouldn't ever notice, then isolate that line, play it, then crack up.

I love their running jokes regarding The Warlord. The first time one of them casually threw in a description of him as "the first coming of Stone Cold Steve Austin" was hilarious to me, and then the "New Warlorder" stuff is great too. I've always been a sucker for Warlord humor.

All of the talk about playing with their action figures as kids misses for me because I never got those and they never interested me. It always sort of leaves me going, "Really? This was that big of a deal to you guys?" But then I shrug it off, because whatever, it's attempting to strike that nostalgia chord that the show does so well, and I'm sure that it works for many.

Master, I don't know what you were talking about with regard to them pivoting to more adult humor and not censoring their curse words. It seems like I would have reached that point by now. Like, they're a bit vulgar I guess but it wouldn't even really occur to me to describe them that way. And the F-word seems like it gets bleeped every time.

Anyway, really enjoy the podcast quite a bit, I do recommend it for anyone who was a fan of 1988-1998 wrestling.

Trust me, the bleeping goes away, and I think it may be when they join the 30 week journey, I don't want to spoil it for you, but one of the characters eventually becomes incredibly foul down the line with heavy use of that word. I could see listening to the podcast with some 12+ in the early episodes, but I would feel pretty uncomfortable listening to the later episodes with anyone under 16.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

Threw down an 8 hour session of SNGs yesterday and experienced my first Lapsed Fan podcast. I listened to the 1992 Royal Rumble. It was decent. The last 30 minutes were hilarious. I listened the first half of part one of WM 17 today and gave up on it. They just got too annoying.

In the 92 Rumble episode, they just "fat shame" Tunney and Monsoon the entire time like it's ****ing funny to do for 4 straight hours. It wasn't clever or funny.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

The Flair podcast with Kevin Von Erich was completely unlistenable. Both Flair and Kevin were on the phone. I could at least make out what Flair was saying, but couldn't hear Kevin at all. When are podcasters going to learn to have guests Skype in to get clear audio? It's absurd that DIYers who don't get 1000 downloads an episode can learn how to get good audio but a sponsored guy with high downloads can't be bothered.

I dunno, I think the idea of Jesse Ventura calling Gorilla Monsoon a fat ***** is pretty good

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

I haven't gotten as far as the 1992 Rumble, but I imagine it would be tough to enjoy the podcast near as much non-chronologically given how they cultivate and lean on their own inside jokes.

Agree completely. When I saw the Von Erich was the guest, I was excoted because I was hoping for some good WCCW stories. After listening for 10 minutes, I just manually fast forwarded to the end so it would be deleted. Very disappointing.

Actually to be honest there have been a lot more disappointing shows than I thought there would be. This isnt the first time both he and the guest have been on the phone, and its always a tough listen. Not only should they utilize skype, but how about get a few in the can when Flair can be in the studio instead of having him on the phone so much.

After listening to their 92 Rumble podacast for about 20 minutes before deciding to watch it for myself first, I cant really speak to that particular one. I decided to start with WM1 and work my way through there before going back to the beginning, and I will say that the inside jokes and incessant laughing at nothing does seem to lessen alot after the first couple Manias.

As for the cursing, I have just completed VII, and it still hasnt gotten bad enough that I dont feel comfortable listening with my kids in the car while they are watching Paw Patrol on the DVD. All, or most of the f words are still bleeped, but apparently that will be coming to an end soon. That will also most likely be the end of me listening because most of my podcast listening comes when Im in the car waiting to pickup or drop off my son at preschool

Same with the new MVP (the Wresler MVP) podcasts on MLW radio. MVP is a cool story teller, but him just using a phone from a cave makes it unlistenable for me.

Hearing two people call Jack Tunney, "Jack Tubby" for 4 hours for a total of around 30-50 times is just a turn off. It's not even that funny to begin with but then to drive it into the ground. His impression of Vince talking about Gorilla stuffing his face with Donuts and pizzas around 25 times isn't funny.

Odd thing about the Lapsed Fan: I swear that the two co-hosts never just sort of lightly chuckle at something. They're either 100% not laughing or they're absolutely uncontrollably losing their **** over how something funny was. That's...not particularly normal.
