Was on my short list. I'm annoyed that no one liked my Hogan vs Jarrett pick cause I could have gotten it much later

Re: WOAT Angles/Moments Draft Thread

I considered the Victory Road thing, but with some of these like the Benoit tribute show and that Jeff Hardy situation, I tend to find less value (for purposes of this draft) in these situations, where the wrestler puts the company in a terrible position and the company bungles the handling of it, than these other angles or segments where the awfulness is purely a self-inflicted wound on the part of the company.

Great Claire Lynch write-up. Actually gave it some serious consideration at #4 overall. I (like others) couldn't do it properly though. It's without a doubt first round value though.

Yeah, I hoped on HHH and Friends lasting a while longer, but no surprise that it didn't. The way that it absolutely bombed the **** out of the hottest story they've developed during this PG era gives it a lot of value.

Great write ups again. The Angelina Love one is underrated imo, it was ****ing horrendous. It lasted a long time as well.

The TNA stuff is going to continue to get naturally undervalued I'm sure.

Re: WOAT Angles/Moments Draft Thread

Let me set the stage for you. It's January 22, 1994. The WWF is at the Probidence Civic Center for their PPV show, Royal Rumble. The last singles match of the evening before the big Rumble match pitted the WWF Champ, Yokozuna defending his title against The Undertaker. This match however had a stipulation attached. The winner would be determined when one man could successfully put his opponent into a casket at ringside and have the lid slammed shut. Yes, folks, we have ourselves an old fashioned casket match.

Unfortunately by the end of this match, there would be nothing old fashioned about it. What nobody knew at the time was that a **** hurricane was going to hit Providence that night, and the eye made landfall right around the 12 minute mark of this match. It started out normal enough, there was back and forth action with a couple of near falls. It wasn't until someone thought it was a good idea to have about 15 heel wrestlers and all of the managers come to ringside to help Yokozuna get the victory.

Now if I told you that I was drafting this match because of the fact that they thought it would be best to have 15 people jump The Undertaker and have no one come out to help him, I would expect some of you to believe me. If I said it was because in addition to that, Taker's Urn was knocked over in the Merle and leaked out some green smoke for no reason, I would also expect some of you to believe me. That would seem a legit reason. But, Oh no! Those aren't the reasons. Instead of telling you the real reason that this ****nado is on my list, I'll let you enjoy it for yourselves:

Yep, that's right, not only did Taker die in that casket, he ascended to the heavens. Jack in the Box Jesus, I hope somebody lost their god damn job over this ****. I don't know what was worse. Was it the odd placement of the camera in the casket that was nowhere to be seen during the match, or was it the fact that everyone seems to think the person who was ascending to the heavens was Marty Janetty. I can't keep going, because I have another one to write up, and I need whatever of my self respect is left to get through that one.

Re: WOAT Angles/Moments Draft Thread

Doing back to back write ups is going to make me die inside even more than I already am, so I'll keep this one brief. Capital Combat 1990: The Return of Robocop. Wow! Holy ****! I know crossover promotion in wrestling usually bites the proverbial big one, but this was in a class of its own. I'll post the video below, but the host is that Sting gets locked in a cage by Arn Anderson, Sid Vicious, and Ole Anderson. The only person to come to Stong's aid was Robocop who broke the cage open to free Sting. Thank ****ing God! I didn't know what we would do without having Sting around to be double crossed for the next ten years.

You can sum up that whole thing with three letters: WCW

Somebody kill me now please.

Mother****er. I went with Gobbledygooker because I decided that although Robocop was higher value, it was surer to get back to me.

Re: WOAT Angles/Moments Draft Thread

The worst thing by far about Robocop is the fact that up until that point, WCW was far better than WWF about staying away from being cartoon wrestling (with occasional exceptions). Jim Ross would self-righteously declare "we actually WRESTLE here." And then suddenly he had to put over Robocop.

Jim Cornette said that he was already furious enough about them booking Robocop for the show, but then he actually had an angle earlier in the night where he was stuck in that cage during a match, and it was so gimmicked and fragile that he was instructed not to rattle the bars of the cage or anything, because they had to make it really easy for Robocop to pull them apart. Cornette said he felt ridiculous just standing in the cage without a struggle.

It's more fun to rag on these hilariously bad angles, but the WOAT moment in the history for me is my next pick.

Pretty certain the OP discussed that pick and it's not gonna be thought of as a great pick for this draft

Re: WOAT Angles/Moments Draft Thread

^ Yup.

I mean, people can go off the radar and use their own criteria and build whatever draft they want, but when it explicitly gets mentioned as what we're not looking for in the first few posts, it's hard to assign it any objective value.

That said, the pick is what it is. True North on the clock.

Yeah, I'd go so far as to say that a repick might be in order.

Edit: Well, if the decision is made, the decision is made. But that really puts a damper on an otherwise elite team.

Re: WOAT Angles/Moments Draft Thread

Im aok with a repick. It's clearly a good pick in the grand scheme of things - one of the worst things to happen in wrestling - but boxed out from the rules of the draft. I don't really want to be searching for people dying in the ring so I can pick them etc. I'm much more hoping for nonsense.

However, not my draft. Also, not my pick. So whatever both of you wanna do.

Re: WOAT Angles/Moments Draft Thread

Well the thing is that we already have a number of picks that are barely "booking" decisions at all, at least strictly wrestling booking. Airing a tribute to Benoit, sending drunk Jeff Hardy to the ring. I didn't strike those down as invalid picks, even though I gave my personal opinion that I don't assign them as much value.

This Owen Hart situation was them trying to run a comedy segment and something going horribly wrong. I guess it doesn't strike me that it's strictly incorrect to pick it since it was an angle gone sideways in the worst; just that it's low value, because its "value" lies in something talked down at the start of the thread.

But if people think that I should open it up for a re-pick then I'm okay with that. Of course, he wouldn't be obligated to do that even if offered it.
