LKJ took my pick. Have to leave soon. Is it okay if I contract out this one El Kabong? Curious what pick he's been talking about anyway.

Full disclosure: I haven't discussed this with him at all and have no idea what the pick will be.

If not I can pick when I get back in about 4-5 hours.

Just skip me for now. Will select in the morning if El Kabong hasn't chosen for me.

Assuming it's my turn:

Spoiler:
Taking place in WCW 2000, because of course it did, this match headlined the Great American Bash. Sting and Vampiro used to be tag team partners, were no longer tag team partners, and decided they needed to have a match for some reason or another. Except they didn't want a normal match. They wanted a HUMAN TORCH MATCH.

The goal of this match was to literally set the other person on fire. Real torch. Real fire. They started by placing the torch on top of the Jumbotron. They eventually got to the jumbotron. Sting is doused with gasoline standing near the open flame and the announcers realllly seem to be outside of kayfabe in their concern about this stupidity.

Then the lights went out, an obvious stuntman appears, gets lit on fire, and falls off the jumbotron and the ppv went off the air. So it ended under the pretense of sting being set on fire and falling to his death.

Another stupid aspect? Apparently this was real gasoline used (so people near them when they doused them didn't think it was fake). So yes, they stood near an open flame on top of the jumbotron doused in real gasoline for no real reason.

Just stupidity.

Does anyone know how this came about? Just weird.

Given "WCW 2000" is involved ... illegal drugs?

I get that JBL hating is the in thing right now but that was a fantastic call imo.

"in thing". You say that as if it's not overdo and well deserved. Booker is almost as equally stupid for saying "bullying ends when you graduate high school".

Damn I don't like choosing for someone else and I'm 100% sure none of you have forgotten it so I don't want to botch a pick with an unpopular opinion. PM'd it to eyebooger.

Yeah, that's cool. I was considering it a while ago, then pretty much forgot about it. It's a great pick that should have really gone much earlier. Thanks El Kabong!

Without further ado:

Spoiler:
The Vince McMahon "Kiss My Ass" club

Spoiler:
Why was this a thing? Filled with awful, awful bathroom "humor", Vince would slowly disrobe his pants as if he were doing a striptease or something, and then willingly (or sometimes unwillingly) have the person literally kiss his ass, usually to save his job. The one with JR was the worst, where Vince puts on JR's hat while this is going on. Angles like this make you question WTF is wrong with this guy.

Spoiler:
Here's a video of the JR one, in case you want that awful trip down memory lane:

Bears mentioning that, by Steph's own admission, Vince proposed an idea that would have been a first-rounder here: an incest angle where Vince would impregnate his own daughter.

JR getting his face slammed into Vince's bare ass should have been picked a long time ago.

It was just a short thing to set up their feud. They wanted Vampiro to be a big deal so they teamed him with Sting for a few weeks before turning on him. A bunch of horrible gimmick matches followed. Vampiro was pretty much WCW's Bray Wyatt. The whole feud was to build him up with a bunch of gimmicks but he never won a match. He also had magic powers. That match that was picked is only a small portion of how bad that feud was.

I had totally blocked out the Kiss My Ass Club, and none of the research I've done mentions it for some bizarre reason.

Yeah I admit that it wasn't on my radar at all. No idea why, since I certainly remember it.

I guess it's on us...this will not take long for anyone to watch:

Spoiler:
Daniel Bryan loses the World Heavyweight title to Sheamus in 18 seconds at WrestleMania

Best wrestler in the world, great heel character on a hot run...yeah, let's flush that all down the toilet for a joke opening WM moment. At least the fans rightfully **** on this for the rest of the show, as well as Raw the next night.

Oh that's a great pick I didn't even think about. Absolutely horrible. Kind of pissed off with myself that I didn't pick it since I still hate it so much.

Let me get my first one out of the way real quick. This one was so bad, that it's going to be hard for me to stay in kayfabe mode for the whole write up. And to no ones shock, we are going back to 1999-2000 WCW. I present to you:

Spoiler:
The KISS Demon

Spoiler:
The KISS Demon was the brain child of the rockband KISS and Eric Bischoff. Bischoff had decided to burn a ton of Ted Turner's money by having KISS play on Nitro one week in 1999. Bischoff spent $500,000 to bring in KISS and wound up doing a lower rating than the week prior. Now some would think that this alone would be enough to warrant being selected, and those people would be correct, but come on, this is WCW. Brian "Crush" Adams was in need o something to do, so they came up with The KISS Demon as his new gimmick.

The crowd obviously **** all over this terrible idea, and when Bischoff was ousted, WOAT Angles Draft patron saint, Vince Russo actually made the right decision in **** canning this gimmick. But of course, this is WCW and even good idea get mixed up in the ****. You see, KISS, the rock group not the Demon, are notorious for suing people over any little thing they think they can get money out of. And apparently there was a stop in the contract that they signed that said The KISS Demon was to main event one WCW PPV, so months after disappearing, the Demon came back to face The Wall at Superbrawl 2000, in what was billed as a special main event. This special main event was the fourth match on the show. You can't make this **** up.

Anyway, after this match the KISS Demon hung around as a comedy act and who the **** really cares. ****, pro wrestling is soul sucking at times.

I cant ever be mad at the Bryan Sheamus match because - despite it not being on purpose - it was the catalyst of the fans deciding they had enough of his ****ty booking and taking him to the damn main event of wrestlemania by force.

If you guys haven't read "The Death of WCW" I highly recommend it. A lot of these angles are mentioned.

I feel the same way to an extent, though the reaction that Bryan got on the way to the ring for that match indicates that it may have been coming anyway.

This is a fairly hot take, but the Daniel Bryan thing at Wrestlemania doesn't bother me much. It was a fitting comeuppance for the character he was playing at the time and iirc he was already starting to get cheered and would have eventually turned face anyways.

It also helped that he and Sheamus got a lot of time on the next PPV in a 2/3 falls match that was really really good.

My family had a get together for that mania. We cooked steaks and had them ready right at the start. I get my plate, I hear the music, I get surprised it's the start, and then look down to doctor my baked potato. Hear OOHHH, look up, see 2-3. It was the main match I wanted to see at that mania alongside punk/jericho. I was so $ad

This is something that frustrates me more about it. That next match showed how great those two could work together, and it's annoying that it got shelved away on a PPV that most will never watch again instead of letting them shine and put on the match of the night at a Mania.
