Re: What Wrestlers Have You Met?
I've met a ton.. i posted this in a different thread:
Quote:
my dad was a virginia beach police officer and also worked backstage security for all the NWA/WCW events that came to the area (norfolk scope, hampton coluseum). he was real close friends with ric flair, arn anderson, magnum t.a. (terry allen) as well as his dad, dan. i've got some old pics from ric flair's wedding that he attended.
I have met most of the wrestlers who were around in WCW in early 90s. i attended pretty much all the events that came to either hampton or norfolk, including starrcade 91 where sting won battlebowl, world war 3 in 95 and 96 (i think) and some clash of the champions. we used to just get to sit wherever we saw seats open and were often able to get real close because ricky steamboat had a son about my age, and me and my mom would sit with him and his mom. i remember one time meeting barry windham and getting to hold his belt. i was real young and could barely lift it.
-contrary to what jzo said, flair i always found to be small...maybe its just relative to the other guys
-brian pillman was a really cool guy
-terry and dan allen frequently ate dinner at our house...both very good guys. terry was paralyzed on one side in a motorcycle accident (pretty sure it was on a bike..might possbly been in car).
-lex luger is ****ing massive.
-debra mcmichaels hugged my head against her rack.

Re: What Wrestlers Have You Met?
Magnum TA was in a car accident. Terrible, because very few guys get as over as he did by their mid 20s, and he comes off as very smart and decent and was in great condition. He also had a clear passion for wrestling. He probably would have been one of the top stars for a very long time. At least he can walk now without a cane. And at least he got to live his dream for awhile; the crowd reactions when he won vs. Wahoo and won individual matches during the Nikita Koloff best of 7 were incredible.

Re: What Wrestlers Have You Met?
Yeah, great guy.. Been a long time since I've seen him...unfortunately I'm a little young to remember his wrestling career, but as a person he was great.

Re: What Wrestlers Have You Met?
at the height of the WWF craze, one of my friends dad worked security and got us ringside seats and we got to go back and meet some of the wrestlers. I'll have to see if I can find the photos. Met the macho man and a few others, I was a little horndog and wanted to meet Miss Elizabeth!

Re: What Wrestlers Have You Met?
One of my best friends is brothers in-law with Hogan.
I attended their wedding last summer and Mr. Hogan was in attendance complete with moustache and bandana.
Also -- What's going on with Matt Hardy? Haven't kept up with news and I'm always curious to hear what's going on.

Re: What Wrestlers Have You Met?
IT was the second to last WWF event to be held at the old Boston Garden, which was a haven at the time for wrestling. I knew the place well as my father had taken me to many WWF events that had taken place there..
After pissing off Sid Vicious in the stands we snuck out behind the curtain and into the locker room of the garden. We were on a mission to find and meet Brett "The Hitman" Hart however we never found him but only the knockoffs that wrestled that night..
It was then that Undertaker and Paul Bearer sans his makeup appear from the locker rooms.. I looked up in shock and only being 16 at the time, he was huge!!! I was able to meet both of them, shake hands and chat for a minute. Yeah I was was thrilled!!
I didn't introduce myself but Myself, HHH, and Chyna worked out in the same gym gym in Nashua, NH and I had walked into the gym one day when Chyna was being trained by HHH.. She ended up on a machine doing calf lifts next to me and all I can recall were her manly ughs from working out HHH however was a short but very built guy at the time..

Re: What Wrestlers Have You Met?
Met Bubba Ray Dudley a few times over the past decade. All in the same place, a bar down the Jersey shore that he frequents when he's in the area. One good story.
I'm there one night with 3 girls. Bubba is being pretty loud, kinda the guy you can't miss in the bar. We're a few feet in front of him, I'm facing him. One of the girls has their back to him. What's going on is some drunk guy (mid-20's) is telling Bubba that he can take his open handed slap/chop to the chest. Bubba's all like "You sure? You sure you wanna do this?" Guy keeps asking for it.
I see Bubba back up about 5 feet and take a running start at the guy. THUNDEROUS chop, sounded like a gun went off. Girl with her back to them SCREAMS and jumps in the air. (I was anticipating this and it was great.) Guy who took the chop starts gasping for air and can't even really move for a minute or two. I really thought he cracked his sternum and collapse a lung from the sound of it. Maybe he did and the guy was too drunk to realize until the next day.
Talked to him briefly once or twice. He's very defensive about the industry and is quick to take offense to anything regarding fans opinions. But he'll shake your hand and what not if you just want to say hi.
Had one of the girls with us once go up to him and ask him for a Bubba Bomb. She didn't know who he was and thought it was a shot of some kind. He got a kick out of it.
One time he was at this Bar the same day as Mike Francesa was doing his radio show from there, which he does once a year. Francesa actually got kind of annoyed and mentioned something about some "jerk" running around causing a commotion, obviously having no idea who Bubba was.
---------------
My friend had a 10 minute conversation with Steve Blackman at the Borgata on the state of the industry about 7 years ago.
---------------
Played blackjack with Darren Drozdorf about 10-15 years ago. So long ago, I'm not even sure whether it was pre or post-paralysis. Didn't really say much to him.
---------------
Don't know if anyone really remembers him, but ran into Big Vito several times in Staten Island about a decade ago. Knew several people who were actually pretty close with him, never really said more than "Hey, what's up?" to the guy myself though.
---------------
Not so much meeting a wrestler story, but my mother got free tickets to 2001 King of the Ring through her work. Took 3 friends with me. We get there and there are cameras set up in our seats. We had $50 seats and end up getting bumped up to box seats about 10 rows from ringside. We were the 1st row of actual seats after the chairs on floor ended.
This is when DDP was stalking Taker's then wife Sara. He came out and did a promo to start and took a seat in the front row in front of us. We were on TV a few times for a brief moment or two.
1 - Jericho/Benoit/Austin main event. They come out and fight right in front of us. I'm standing there in my Jericho pose with an absurdly flashy Jericho-like bright blue shirt on.
2 - My friend, who never really follows WCW, sees some guy running up the aisle in the crowd directly to his right. Asks "Who the hell is this clown?" Like it's just some guy acting like an idiot. Comes running right in front of then jumps the rail and puts Austin through the table. Booker T. We made it onto TV again as he ran directly in front of us.
Was also the PPV where Angle vs Shane in a street fight with Angle being thrown through the glass. Greatest experience I've had at a live event.
------------------
Went to a TNA PPV couple of years ago. Floor seats. Russo came out a few times to watch with the fans. Really personable and wanted to hear opinions good or bad.

GOAT story itt so far.
Went to Summerslam 97 at the Continental Airlines Arena when I was 10. After the show, my dad took me to some local diner called Lookers where we saw the entire DOA (biker gang stable at the time consisting of Brian Lee, Brian Adams, and The Bruise Brothers) at a table. Intimidating looking dudes, but they couldn't have been nicer to us. They talked to us for a good 3 minutes, despite being in the middle of eating. One of them even asked me who won the main event that night (which I gave a super markish recap of how Shawn Michaels screwed The Undertaker and how the Undertaker would make him rest in piece). Then they said it was nice meeting us, but they were going next door to meet some other wrestlers. I wanted to go with them so badly to meet the other wrestlers, but my dad said I wasn't allowed to go to that part of the restaurant. I was too young to realize what that meant then, but the place was called Lookers so I'm sure you can imply what next door was and why a 10-year old would not have been allowed to enter.

Ultimate Warrior
Met him when I was knee-high to a grasshopper in an airport while changing flights.
He went on to lose his title to Sgt. Slaughter at a Thanksgiving match. (forget the name of that particular event)

Re: What Wrestlers Have You Met?
I was at work and a coworker came back to the break room to tell me someone wanted to see me. He said, "He's big. I think he's a wrestler."
A name immediately popped into my head and I went to the lobby and it was.....

Re: What Wrestlers Have You Met?
Think I shared this in the threadzilla, but met Billy Gunn when TNA was doing a house show about 5 years back in my town. He was doing pictures with people at a local bar, I was a bit drunk, and said we should take our shirts off and do the Billy and Chuck pose, and he flipped out, said something like "What the hell, what kind of *** do you think I am!?" and just ruined his evening. I think he got future-endeavored like a week after that, haha. He did NOT look so good to me.
