Your tournament bracket for WBM's greatest wrestling matches of all time.

A quick rundown:

1. Voting will take place in this thread from the time a match is posted until its deadline comes up. The first matchup of the Sweet 16 will be posted shortly after this OP. To make it easier for me to pick out votes, please bold the match you're voting for.

2. Unlike the first two rounds, I'm only going to post one match per 24 hour period, so I'm narrowing the voting window down to 24 hours from the 48 that it had been. This means the same ration of voting per 24 hours, but just reduced to give proper spotlight to each matchup from now on. It should be a bit easier to vote faster now, as I'm guessing that the regs who have been voting all along will have seen many of these by now.

2. Voters must have 100 posts on 2p2 (these posts can be on any forum; whatever. I just don't want gimmicks swinging the vote is all).

3. Voters are strongly asked to have watched both matches at least at some point before casting a vote. These matches are all awesome, so I'm not asking you to do something that sucks. But obviously if you vote without watching then nobody will ever know, so it's not like this is an enforceable rule.

4. Advocacy for the side you take is perfectly welcome and even encouraged. And if the occasional hot Alison Brie gif slips in, I don't think that will hurt anyone either.

5. I will just post the links to the videos in my write-ups, because (a) too many embeds slows page-loading down for lots of people and (b) some matches are only available on DailyMotion, and I'm not sure that those can be embedded.

NORTHEAST REGION SEMIFINAL

#2 SEED: HHH VS. CHRIS BENOIT VS. SHAWN MICHAELS (WRESTLEMANIA XX)

This matchup took out a Dean Malenko vs. Rey Mysterio classic convincingly in the first round, skyrocketing its status from a #8 seed all the way up to a #2.

Triple H came in as the champion and was in a blood feud with Shawn Michaels. Chris Benoit had won the 2004 Royal Rumble. There was really no better way to legitimize Chris Benoit as a true superstar. Also, the aftermath segment of this match might make moorobot wretch, but I think most of the rest of us think it’s pretty awesome.

#6 SEED: BRET HART VS. BRITISH BULLDOG (SUMMERSLAM ’92)

The British Bulldog was granted a shot at the Intercontinental Title, and for the first time the brother-in-law relationship between Bret Hart and himself was talked about on-screen. It was a friendly feud, but they still did the whole “this is tearing Diana Hart apart” thing due to her husband and brother going at it.

This, undoubtedly due in large part to the event being held at Wembley Stadium, was actually the main event of the PPV despite it only being the Intercontinental Title match. The WWF Title match, Savage vs. Warrior, was held earlier in the card. Location regardless, it’s a high compliment to just how big this match was and just how important the IC belt was back then. The match obviously delivered as well; just watch it.

Still don't get the big deal with the triple threat match.

So, in spite of the fact that I totally disagree with Bret/Bulldog advancing over Flair/Steamboat last round, it does get my vote here.

HHH/HBK/Benoit, this one isn't close at all. This will be the easiest vote of this round.

So much of the impact of the triple threat was blunted given later events. It was a great match, but no one can honestly watch the ending with the same emotions that were present at the time. Bret/Bulldog gets me just as involved now as when I first saw it 20 years ago.

Incidentally, this is one of the two matches I mentioned where the winner is just cannon fodder for the next round.

I just don't get the hate for this match at all.

I think it's a great match. I'm just not pleased with Flair/Steamboat getting bounced. But obviously even in my shell-shocked state I'll still trotted out a vote for the match that I was just against mere minutes before, so...I definitely have respect for it.

I could see both Flair/Steamboat matches being eliminated this round, though I only think one should.

HHH vs HBK vs ___ gets my vote.


both Flair/Steamboat matches should wafflecrush and if they don't it's lol ridic but i won't be surprised at this point.

Flair v. Steamboat II being eliminated by TLC II would be tragic, though I acknowledge that it could happen.
