Re: seriously, why do grown men watch pro wrestling?
You like vanilla ice cream. Someone else likes chocolate, which you can't stand. In other words, different people have different tastes. There is nothing to understand beyond that.

I'll try to give you a real answer to your question. People watch wrestling for many different reasons. Some watch it for the athletic talent that the wrestlers have.
Others watch it for the rare times there are actually engaging storylines.
Some like the brutality and crazy things they will do to there bodies.
Others like the hot divas that are on every week.
So as I showed above there's a lot of different reasons for people to watch wrestling.
Re: seriously, why do grown men watch pro wrestling?
for me until last year i only ever watched the ppvs while getting wasted with a couple of mates. it was basically standard practice when a big ppv was on = pizza, couple of slabs, and basically just laughing at the ridiculousness of it all. i do think there are a lot of guys out there that still watch it like that, just for the total escapism and randomness.
over the past year ive actually gotten in to it, and now i would consider myself somewhere inbetween casual fan and serious fan. if i had to summarise what makes wrestling good in one line, its because every single person gets the opportunity to succeed or fail every single night. like everyone that goes out there is fighting for their spot and trying to make their storyline etc amazing and you never know if they are going to succeed or fail. so when there is a big success you get that feeling wrestling fans call 'marking out'. its also the interactive nature that i like, as in the crowd can make or break, and change storylines based on who they cheer for.
(btw on the topic of ice cream i often feel the world is trolling me with flavors other than vanilla. we have created the best flavor. everyone should just eat it and stop ordering other stuff jfc
ordering chocolate ice cream is like going in to a car dealership and saying you want a car with square wheels)
Re: seriously, why do grown men watch pro wrestling?
My friend is an intelligent guy and watches this all the time and I never understood why. He finally explained it to me and it had a lot to do with reasons mentioned earlier but the main reason was nostalgia.
He grew up watching wrestling with his dad and his dad taking him to events.

For me it's all about story telling. I just like good stories (not that there are very many at the moment). Add to that the athletic skill and some crazyness and you get a nice mix. It's entertainment but if it's well done you can really get behind a guy (or hate him) and it feels real. For me it's the same way I get behind a character in a tv series or a book. Those are all "fake", but nobody complains about that when reading a book.

OK, first step to converting you is complete. You now realise that there are great moments in pro wrestling.
Step two, on Jan 29th the 2012 Royal Rumble happens. You should join us in its viewing thread when it happens and watch this PPV, ways of watching may be PMed to you on the day by some people if you need any.
As for exactly why we watch - cos we enjoy it. We enjoy it for different reasons, but its a bunch of people putting on a show and we watch to be entertained. Its like asking people why they enjoy musical theater - i literally dont get it at all, but they do and so good for them.
