Real Wrestling

A thread for discussing anything related to scholastic, freestyle and greco (the kinds done in the Olympics and by student-athletes).

I doubt this thread will get much traffic, real wrestling is an under-appreciated sport. But worth a try.

Re: Real Wrestling

i think this would get a better response in the sports forum, despite the name of this forum.

Re: Real Wrestling

Isn't the only difference that "real" wrestling does a 1-count, while pro wrestling does a 3-count?

Which forum are you referring to? "Sporting events"? I feel like there should be a forum called "Other sports". But true, now that I think of it, anyone who's a fan of real wrestling probably has 0 interest in pro wrestling, and wouldn't be in this forum. (Though I stumbled into this forum naively thinking it would be about real wrestling lol so maybe other ppl will too. For better accuracy this forum ought to be called "Pro Wrestling".)

Yeah Kurt Angle is one of the all-time greats. When I was young, I had the privilege of attending a technique clinic he gave at a wrestling camp I went to. I remember being amazed at how fast he was with the moves. Unfortunately I don't remember what he taught, because at the time I didn't care about wrestling.

Probably not a serious question, but no, there's lots more differences.

This might get better participation in a subforum like this, it's going to be instantly buried or gif-bombed out of existence in SE.

Re: Real Wrestling

Well, I might as well get some good mileage out of this. Are there any videos out there on Brock Lesnar in his NCAA days?

Re: Real Wrestling

That's why I don't like watching Heavyweight matches hah. Wow Brock was one lazy wrestler. 5 stalling calls on him in 2 matches, so he scored 3 points on himself. Compare to a lighter weight match -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDbYIPNSUyY

And in my 13 years of wrestling and 20 years of following the sport, I never heard of someone submitting in Scholastic style wrestling! I watched and was wondering where the pin was, but he didn't get pinned, he submitted wtf! Lol I just lost respect for Brock. (Not that he couldn't beat me to a pulp.)

Correction from before -- I think Cary Kolat is the one I remember from the camp, not Kurt Angle. I think Angle was there too but Kolat was the lightning-fast one.

Re: Real Wrestling

Only sport where you risk being raped during a match?

Hunt's lawyer, Mike Butler, has said in court papers that the alleged acts of sexual penetration during the 2005-2006 season were legitimate wrestling moves known as "skinning" and the "butt drag."

Re: Real Wrestling

I don't know what moves they do in South Dakota but those moves in question don't exist where I'm from. I guess in a place where people rape livestock, raping teammates is an improvement.

It's real (as in, not imaginary), but it's not a sport, and shouldn't be in the "Sports" section of this forum imho. It's a show, it's entertainment and should maybe be in EDF.

And none of the moves can be used in a real fight unless your enemy is just standing/laying there letting you. (Correct me if I'm wrong?)

Competitive wrestling is a sport. "Wrestling" = competitive wrestling. Pro wrestling = something else, not wrestling, but a form of showbiz. That's why I used the adjective "real" to describe competitive wrestling.
