Predictions for 2016 Predictions for 2016

01-03-2016 , 10:12 AM
This is the place for all of your terrible and not-so-terrible predictions for this year.

I'll start:
  • Undertaker defeats John Cena in the main event of Wrestlemania. It will be Undertaker's final match.
  • Samoa Joe debuts at the Royal Rumble, he'll win either the IC or US title sometime, but will be mostly an afterthought by the end of the year.
  • At least one Uso turns heel.
  • Big E has a PPV main event as a legitimate world championhip contender.
  • John Cena ties Flair's record of 16 world titles.
  • Baron Corbin wins the NXT championship at the first 2016 Takeover. He holds the title for 6 months.
  • Brock Lesnar will not win the Royal Rumble. The fans, however, will be pleased with the somewhat unexpected winner.
  • Jason Jordan and Chad Gable win the main roster tag titles.
  • Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady debut the night after Wrestlemania.
  • CM Punk will still have zero UFC fights to his name.
  • Kurt Angle returns to WWE.

I predict that this year's Wrestle Kingdom show, tomorrow, (well 12 hours from now) will be the best overall wrestling show of the year of any promotion.

My first prediction is that there will be no first time world champions in WWE this year. All about Roman, Brock, Cena, HHH, and at the end of the year, Seth.

The brand will split again. Smackdown will be a main tv version of NXT with a mix of NXTers and forgotten/midcard people on Raw. It will be widely regarded as the best WWE product on TV since the ruthless aggression smackdown era.

- Daniel Bryan does not wrestle a single match
- RAW Ratings drop below 2.0
- Smackdown move to USA is a flop
- NXT invasion angle on Smackdown is used to bring in viewers, it works.
- Someone on the active WWE roster unexpectedly dies

I almost put this one myself, but decided it was too morbid.

FYP.

I predict Vince leaves WWE to take up a job in President Trump's cabinet. Now effectively running the show, Triple H promptly books himself as WWE champion rehashing the '2 man power trip' storyline of 2001 alongside Shane McMahon. Nash and Waltman return on flush contracts and join the active roster as world tag team champions. Counter-intuitively this leads to a significant rise in ratings.

CM Punk wins his UFC debut match against Elliot Seymour.

Hulk Hogan re-emerges as an evangelical Christian and renounces his previous life. "I'm a new guy, I've totally been reborn. It's pretty awesome", proclaims Hulk under his new twitter moniker 'Good News Hogan'.

- Reigns wins and closes out WM as WWE Champion
- Charlotte feuds with Nikki Bella (Nikki as a face) for the Divas Title through WM
- Daniel Bryan is released from the company
- Kevin Owens enters and does not win the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royale

- John Cena misses a lot more time due to shooting more movies and announces he will retire at the 2017 WrestleMania.

- Rousey beats Holm in the rematch then quits the UFC to join the WWE on a deal comparable to Bork's.

- Daniel Bryan returns only to quits due to never getting anything resembling a push and resurfaces in Japan.

- Every prediction Tragichero makes doesn't come true.

Former WWE Divas champion Nikki Bella, who has been out of action since dropping the championship to Charlotte, noted on Instagram she was undergoing an epidural to her spine in an attempt to "hopefully shrink" the bulging discs in her back.
There's no current timeframe for her to return to the ring, but surgery is on the horizon if she's not able to correct the issues.
My sole prediction is that if God forbid, an active performer does pass away, they will come back to pin a current title holder the next week after the WWE doctors pronounce them fit to compete.

Just one quick one.

Two tag team debut on the main roster the night after WM immediately giving the entire division a shot in the arm. If I had to guess, I would say it is the Vaudevillians and Enzo and Cassidy.

  • Kurt Angle returns to WWE.
  • I really think this would have happened if Cena was healthy. Instead we got some idiotic waste of time with Shane.
  • Not only did Samoa Joe not compete at the Royal Rumble, he never even made it to the main roster this year.
  • Finally got one, though The Usos have been stale for so long that it wasn't exactly a bold prediction.
  • Nope, was stuck in the quest to break the tag title record.
  • Nope, Cena was largely used as a prop to elevate AJ Styles. (Predicting THAT would have been really impressive)
  • Instead, Corbin debuts at Wrestlemania and was the unexpected battle royal winner. He's been on the main roster ever since, but hasn't really done anything super noteworthy.
  • Lesnar confirmed non-winner. By the time the Rumble happened, HHH was hardly an unexpected winner. Some fans were happy I guess.
  • American Alpha are fully on the main roster, but no gold for them yet.
  • Feels good to completely nail one of these.
  • Jesus, I got this wrong too? Maybe jobber UFC fights don't actually count.
  • Unfortunately we never did hear that music this year.

Numbers 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, and 10 feel like at least decent possibilities to happen next year.

Unsure if this is a hit or a miss. Alpha, Hype Bros, Corbin, Alexa, Carmella were all in NXT at this time and are now in legit feuds. AJ Styles wasn't even in the company at the time. But they did also get Ambrose and Cena and Taker and Miz so it wasn't just those. Leaning towards hit but I'm biased.

It's definitely the best WWE product on TV in a long long time, but I'm unsure if this is a hit or miss either.

Not bad at reading the tea leaves overall tho! There wasn't much being told to us about this coming up at the time. I just recognized the hiring of Mauro and the move to USA making little sense if it was to continue being a rerun of raw nobody ever watched.

One clearly correct prediction, and one that's at least half right since I have no idea if it's true or not.

I'd say I did okay.

I'm not sure how to grade this one. Either way I was wrong on the Owens or AJ front.

Good call. It's on its way to being one of the best since then.

That's exactly how I used to feel about both of them.....but more about Jeff...who I still kinda feel that way about.

Hmmm, in all fairness, I was actually wrong on that one. I mean it is a solid enough event, but the first 6 of 9 matches were just "there" although the last three matches were tremendous highly recommended stuff.

I enjoyed Invasion Attack, Dominion 6.19, and some of the G1 Climax shows a tad better than Wrestle Kingdom. Heck, if it wasn't for the consistent ref stoppages in the main event, I may have considered NXT Takeover: Dallas to be more enjoyable than Wrestle Kingdom (something about a consistently great 2.5 hour show certainly beats a 4-5 hour show that was mainly so-so until the final three matches which hit very well).
