Ugh, suicide is awful. A buddy of mine picked me up on the way home from class and drove me home. 2 hours later he killed himself. He was acting kind of weird and its always haunted me I didnt invite him in or just stay and talk to him for a bit. 3rd suicide I had been close to, thankfully none since. Honestly its always people I wouldnt pick out as likely to do that too.

I've never been close to anyone who comitted suicide, to be honest. Sgt Bourque was probably the closest, and it was a professional and student/teacher realtionship.

All I know is that it's worse for everyone around you than for yourself after it, so I do understand the selfishness rationale. Having said that, someone in that situation isn't going to be thinking about it at the time.

It's obvious to me that Sgt Bourque had severe PTSD now that I think about it. He served 2 tours in Afghanistan and 1 in Yugoslavia, as well as his wife serving 1 in each (I believe). Still shocked, though.

Mr Nanny is on TV. What a terrible movie.

I came out of my childhood saying that No Holds Barred was Hulk Hogan's only decent movie. And then I rewatched that movie as an adult and saw how wrong I was. Correction: Hulk Hogan has no decent or even remotely watchable movies.

If you watch No Holds Barred with the idea that it is actually a comedy when it appears to try to be serious, it's actually a really good movie.

OMG this guy with a fro just came on screen and said, "First you defy me, then you mock my hair? You're dead!" LOL

And some how his hair stopped him from dying when he landed head first into an empty pool.

The writer of this movie must be the head writer for WWE today.

Isnt suicide reasonable as an ev calculation if expected sadness for remainder of life exceeds expected happiness for remainder of life? Obv this discounts the survivors feelings but i dontthink suiciders consider them very often

Did I miss a deleted post that disko was replying to? Seems like the Belcher incident for KC is being treated far more kindly than the Benoit tragedy, maybe because NFL isn't pro wrasslin, and he didn't kill the kid? Still atrocious the Chiefs even let their players say anything positive about the guy, much less any tributes I've seen so far. He's still a cold-blooded murderer

I think the surprisingly sympathetic reaction is a combination of a few things.
*First, that Junior Seau suicide forced us to acknowledge for a minute that football really does seem to be scrambling players' brains, no matter how much we'd rather not acknowledge that as consumers of it.
*Second, I think the tidbit about him thanking Crennel and Pioli for all they'd done for him before offing himself humanized him to people and kind of slotted him into that Seau category in spite of the fact that Seau never committed any such heinous acts before he killed himself.
*And yeah, thirdly the NFL is one of the most popular entertainment sources of all time, whereas the WWE is a circus sideshow to the masses. People are going to be inclined toward holding NFL players in higher regard.

But I agree with you.

The whole thing is just super sad. Whatever y'all do stay out of the SE thread about it. I've never seen so many insensitive jokes and tasteless post in one thread.

I'm thinking about going to the Royal Rumble. Need advice.

Right now on ticketmaster there are only two seats together in the upperbowl. If I'm going to fly to this thing I want some decent tickets but don't want to spend more than a couple hundy each. Anyone have experience getting tickets to big PPVs that could give me advice on the best way to go about getting tickets?

John Williams is the greatest composer of the modern era, and the greatest film composer of all time bar-none.

Leonard Bernstein is a distant second.

Let me know when John Williams has a spot in an REM song and we'll discuss whether or not he even touches Bernstein's greatness

Beyond the Season by Garth Brooks is likely the greatest Country Christmas album of all time.

Randy Travis' An Old Time Christmas is a very, very close second.

I was disappointed by Brad Paisley's effort at a Christmas album.

I enjoy this original from Sugarland:

I've never heard that Sugarland song before. I love me some Jennifer Nettles, and I'm liking this tune for sure.

Alan Jackson is also consistently good at Christmas albums.

I remember also listening to an awesome Ricky Skaggs Christmas album when I was a kid. I'm going to try to find it, I think.

Aside from that, our company Christmas party is today, and I've been in to the sauce since about 11 this morning. Gonna be a good rest of the day.

As far as "posts Wally makes that he's pretty sure only LKJ will even understand" go, that is one of the weirder ones.

It's a decent song, but it always makes me say that I'd slap my friend if he was as pathetic as the dude in that song.

"The Baby" is definitely the superior Blake Shelton ballad.

Blake Shelton:

She Wouldn't Be Gone > Playboys of the Southwestern World > Austin > Goodbye Time > The Baby > Who Are You When I'm Not Looking > God Gave Me You >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kiss My Country Ass

There are probably many singles I forgot to rank, but that's the long and the short of it.

I disagree with much of that, especially the outright snub of Ol' Red.

I knew I was missing a couple good ones I liked. Ol' Red is middle of the pack for me for sure.

One thing we can all agree on is that Anything But Mine is Kenny Chesney's best song, and he is another artist that is super consistently good.

"There Goes My Life" slaughters "Anything But Mine" in a comparison just on that album alone. Kenny had a couple of awesome albums about 10 years ago, but became very hit-or-miss after that. I wouldn't praise his consistency.
